Grey’s Anatomy Star Isaiah Washington Opens Up About Decision to Leave the Democratic Party After Trump W.H. Visit

‘Walking away is a sacrifice’

EXCERPT:

TYRUS: "Your activism and your actorism, the fame that came from being a good actor, how did that mess with your activism?"
WASHINGTON: "'Grey’s Anatomy' did. 'Grey’s Anatomy' connected my name with my face. No one asked me about my personal pains politically or intellectually, they didn’t care. I was commodity. And I’m happy to be one. I've only become political, like, since I left the White House recently supporting the First Step Act. No one really knew that I have an organization called Artists & Athletes Alliance that's been two years old out now, that's been doing a lot of great things, pushing a lot of great things like the First Step Act. Van Jones and Louis Reed and Jessica Jackson, they came to us because you have a lot of conservative or centric, libertarian minded people that really care about other people, but they are terrified to come out of the closet and say anything that’s not in line with the Democratic Party."
