BERMAN: "Understanding mental illness is your life’s work. So when you hear the president say as he said before directly, mental illness pulls the trigger, what’s your assessment of that claim?"
PHILLIPS-DAVIS: "That assessment is just misguided. Even though there is mental illness all over the world and in country, mental illness accounts for so little of violence. And people who have mental illness are more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else. So it’s a simplistic argument and it’s inaccurate."
