Bill Richardson on Relationship with Iran: ‘It’s Deteriorating Considerably’
EXCERPT:
RICHARDSON: "Well, it’s deteriorating considerably, Iran and the United States. It wasn’t good. I disagreed with getting out of the nuclear deal, but at the same time Iran keeps helping terrorist groups, helping Assad in Syria, messing around in Yemen. They are not our friends. But what I worry about is we have a window of about 60 days maybe for some third party negotiations so Iran doesn’t enrich uranium, which it said it will do within 60 days. And secondly, start up another nuclear reactor that is geared to nuclear weapons and not nuclear power. So things are not good. Now, what I want to see is did, in fact, Iran threaten our troops in Iraq and Syria? That was a justification for sending the carrier and ramping up the military. I want to see that. If that is the case I think things are not good and we need some stabilizing influence, perhaps the Europeans, perhaps the Germans. But, you know, the Secretary of State of and the German chancellor canceled their meeting. That is not good, Bill. You need diplomacy and dialogue. You can’t keep ramping up military options."
