Deroy Murdock Battles Roland Martin on Reparations: ‘Slavery Ended 154 Years Ago!’
RUSH EXCERPT:
MARTIN: “We made mistake automatically jump to the cost, why you’re even having conversation. When you talk about this year, commemorating 400th anniversary of 20 African-Americans arriving in Virginia, look at American history, goes back to general Sherman and special order 15. 40-acres and mule rescinded after Lincoln was killed. That was an effort to distribute land to freed slaves never passed by Congress. This nation has always used free labor African-Americans to build the country but has never dealt with reality of preventing black folks being part of the economic system in this country. Those are facts.”
PAYNE: “Deroy?”
MURDOCK: “Well here is the facts. Slavery ended 154 years ago. A long, long time since we had slavery in the country. People came to the country, great wave of immigrants, 1hundred, 1900, they will be shocked and disgusted come through people come from Poland, Russia, Ireland. They have to pay money to progeny of people who have not been enslaved for 150 odd years. People like my family. My family is black. They came to the United States in 1962. Do I get a check? We had no role in slavery.
PAYNE: “One second. Roland, I let you in, what do you say to folks just wasn’t when slavery ended though. Jim crow laws.”
