SNL Parodies Controversial Gillette ‘Toxic Masculinity’ Ad

‘Because the Kool-Aid boys of today will become the Kool-Aid men of tomorrow’

Oh Yeah! SNL Parodies Controversial Gillette ‘Toxic Masculinity’ Ad (Mediaite)

Corporate razor behemoth created a stir this week with a socially-conscious commercial decrying toxic masculinity, and Saturday Night Livepromptly lampooned the spot with a parody that asks men to set a better example than the Kool-Aid Man.

The Gillette ad has been criticized by some as a cynical way to co-opt a significant social issue in order to sell razors, but has mainly been cheered for its core message of encouraging good behavior, and its ability to infuriate the likes of Piers Morgan.

On this week’s SNL, though, it was the ad’s comically poignant tone that was the target. The parody opens with re-creations of several old-style Kool-Aid ads, featuring the aggressive wall-busting giant pitcher mascot we’ve all come to know and love.
