Danny Cevallos: There Are Three Major Ways Rudy’s Violated Criminal Defense Attorney 101
EXCERPT:
CEVALLOS: "Three major ways that Rudy's violating criminal defense attorney 101. There are probably more. But three is a good place to start. First, what you just talked about, don’t adopt wholesale what you client tells you after the first meeting. We have seen this with Rudy. He goes out there armed with what he's probably being told by his client. But here’s the reality, clients will always burn their lawyers. Because they tell them the version they want the world to be, not necessarily the version that coincides with what the prosecution thinks the facts are. And sometimes they tell you a version that is not what the factual facts are. But that’s a common, common mistake for defense attorneys. The other thing is, don’t insult the prosecutors. You can maybe criticize the facts, you can maybe complain about the burden of proof, but don’t insult prosecutors, don't call them corrupt. And most of all, one of the things Rudy really I think is blowing here is that he goes on these shows, and he thinks it’s just a chat — he thinks he’s just hanging out. He doesn’t stay on message."
