Amid rumors a Prince hologram would be used during Justin Timberlake’s 2018 Super Bowl performance, former Prince bandmate, Sheila E, announced via Twitter that no hologram of Prince would in fact be used.

"Family, I spoke w/Justin 2nite and he shared heartfelt words of respect for Prince & the Purple fans," Sheila E. tweeted. "I look 4wrd 2 seeing what I’m sure is going 2 be a spectacular halftime show. There is no hologram."

Timberlake nonetheless played homage to Prince with a cover of "I Will Die 4 U." As Timberlake performed, a large cloth appeared at the center of the stage, upon which a video of Prince was projected. The video included a replay of Prince’s previous Super Bowl appearance.
