Cory Gardner: I’d Like To See Trump Do More to Punish Russia

‘I think the Russians are going to try to interfere with the elections just as they had in the past one and in elections years ago’

EXCERPT:
JACKSON: “We know the president will talk about North Korea. Mike Pompeo made a couple eyebrow raising comments about the president’s position to North Korea. I want you to listen to what he said.”
GARNER: “Great.”
[clip starts]
HOST: “Do you have concerns they may try and interfere in the U.S. midterms which are coming up?”
POMPEO: “Of course, I have every expectation they will continue to try to do that but I’m confident that America will be able to have a free and fair election, that we’ll push back in a way that is sufficiently robust.”
[clip ends]
JACKSON: “Sometimes that happens on live TV, senator, we rolled the wrong tape. That was Mike Pompeo talking about Russia instead and interfering with the elections, but let me ask you that since we’re here. Are you confident that the midterms will be free of Russian interference?”
GARDNER: “I think the Russians are going to try to interfere with the elections just as they had in the past one and we know they have in elections years ago. JACKSON: “Is the administration doing enough to deter Russia from trying to meddle?”
GARDNER: “I believe certainly Director Pompeo as you heard is doing everything they can to get this information out. I hope that the — “
JACKSON: “What about the president?”
GARDNER: “I believe the president — well, the president needs to make sure he’s doing enough and direct the agencies to give the states the critical equipment they need, the critical information they need and I think we have to do our part in Congress to make sure Senators Burr and Senator Warner have the investigation? A good bipartisan fashion.”
JACKSON: “I want to move on to North Korea but I’m not sure the question — is currently this president doing you have no do deter Russia? I know you said he needs to do enough, but do you think he is doing t right now?”
GARDNER: “I believe he’s doing everything he believes is right. What I’d like to see additional sanctions on Russia. I’d like to see more steps taken to make sure Russia is punished. for the actions taken in Syria. I would like to see that.”
