Jonathan Smith says he’s no hero. His actions say otherwise.

Smith is reported to have saved as many as 30 people during the Las Vegas shooting massacre by running back to the scene to help get them out. The 30-year-old from California was then shot in the neck where an off-duty police officer from San Diego, Tom McGrath, helped to save his life.

“I think the people that weren’t there don’t realize how traumatic it was,” Smith said Wednesday on CNN. “The whole time, I thought honestly I would die. I really did.”
