Pastor Jack Graham: When Crisis Comes Is When the Church Can Be at Its Best

‘Once the time of disaster is done, then we need to be there to help people’

EXCERPT:

GRAHAM: "Well, the opportunity we have right now is an unprecedented opportunity. When crisis comes, this is when the church can be at its best. And -- so churches like ours, really churches all across Texas, you know, Texas has a lot of churches, and when we see people banding together because the church is not just a big institution or the church is not buildings but people making a difference in other people’s lives and being a neighbor. And so the churches in Houston are working with churches. We are in the Dallas area. So we are helping. We are pulling together. We are praying. We are praying for help. We are praying for strength for those who are serving, rescuing. We are sending, we are giving. There are some things we can do both now and in the aftermath of -- of this great flood. And once the flood is over, once the crisis is done, then the rebuilding comes. And that’s where the church can be strong and stay strong and help people rebuild their lives and bring a message of hope, because people are broken by this, and so much loss and so much devastating. And we have a message of the love of Christ and that God cares. And that’s the difference we can make. Once the -- once the time of -- of disaster is done, then we need to be there to help people. And the church will be there long after the flood is gone."
