Trump's segue way to the defense of those monuments that Charlie just talked about may prove a political winner in the short run if you believe in the polls. But in the long run, it throws the G.O.P. Back 40 years and it will take them years to recover. My loser is obviously our friend Bannon. On the other hand, he may come out of this strengthened. He is unshackled. He lost his job but he wasn't really terribly effective. That quote you had where he said that Trump presidency, the original, the shining, the one that was never attained is over. I think what he meant is the Bannon presidency is over. I don't think it ever got going but it certainly existed in his head. And it was never going to actually event united States. Instead he is now in a position to push and to prod from the outside in a way that could be extremely powerful."
