College Student: I Disagree with Idea of ‘Cognitive Privilege’; I Worked Hard for My Success

‘I will not have some writer take it away by saying I was born with it’

RUSH EXCERPT:
JAIMES: "I completely disagree. I have worked hard for my success and I will not have some writer take it away by saying I was born with it."
EARHARDT: "Is there a danger in naming all of the different privileges? We hear of white privilege and now cognitive privilege. Is there a danger in that?"
JAIMES: "Oh, absolutely. I’m always told as a Hispanic woman, I was born to Hispanic single mother that I’m underprivileged. I think it’s not true at all. I think it’s a cover up to undermine my ability while someone trying to say that they are helping me as a Hispanic woman. I don’t believe I need any help from anyone that’s not myself."
