Bob Bianchi: Dropping Kayak Killer’s Charge to Negligent Homicide Is ‘Mind-Boggling’ and an ‘Injustice’

‘The plea bargain discount store must’ve been open that day’

RUSH EXCERPT:
BIANCHI: "I have never seen anything like this. The plea bargain discount store must’ve been open that day in the prosecutor’s office. You have everything you want for the ingredients to make them salivate to try a case. You have motive, means, opportunity. She said she was euphoric that he was killed. She assisted in that. She knew it was in cold and frigid waters. She said she wanted him dead. A more purposeful case you couldn't get. And Jon, as prosecutors, you look at the law, facts, and whether you can prove a case beyond reasonable doubt to a jury. This was a no-brainer of a trial, and I’ll tell you what -- This was not the kind of case that any juror would be sympathetic towards. This was cold and calculated. The sentence, dropping it from murder, to manslaughter, and then dropping it down to say she was just acting by accident as opposed to on purpose is just mind-boggling to me. And an injustice."
