Doran: ‘A Handshake’ Between Putin and Trump ‘Does Not Mean Normalization’

‘Normalization and relations come at the end of a long process, not at the beginning’

RUSH EXCERPT:

LINE: "The handshake did seem fairly warm to kick things off, where is the common ground? Both sides of like to come out of this saying there was some sort of victory, I would think."
DORAN: "That’s true, but it’s also important to remember that victory does not necessarily mean normalization. At the end of the day, there is a long, hard path that the Russians and United States have ahead of them. The conditions are bad right now. We have an ongoing conflict in Ukraine, we have questions over ISIS and Assad’s future and Syria. There is a lot of work that needs to be done and at the end of the day, a handshake does not mean normalization. Normalization and relations come at the end of a long process, not at the beginning."
