Chris Matthews on Trump: I Don’t Think Many Countries Said We Want a Dictator, They May End Up with One, But They Don’t Vote for One
EXCERPT:
MATTHEWS: “I remember when I was at the Berlin Wall at the Brandenburg Gate, and I was talking to people as the Berlin Wall was coming down and I asked the guy, 'What’s freedom mean to you? Was is Freiheit? What’s that mean?' And this guy said to me, 'Talking to you.' I mean, the idea of talking to a political reporter about what’s going on in their country, daring to criticize their government, that’s American. That’s what we do in this country. We criticize our government, we’re allowed to do it. Will Trump still allow us to do that? I don’t think so. He says, 'I want a dictatorship, but I also want to be able to wreak revenge on anybody that disagrees with me, anybody that says something I don’t like, anybody who personally I don’t like.' What kind of a country would elect that kind of leadership on its face, to say we’re taking on a dictator? I don’t think many countries said, 'We want a dictator.' They may end up with one, but they don't vote for one. You don’t say, 'I’m a dictator.' This guy is doing it."
