Ed Henry: Next Dem Debate Opposite NFL Playoffs to Hide Clinton Slip-ups

‘The real point is that some of these issues may come back in the general election’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

MACCALLUM: “What are Republicans saying about what Hillary Clinton had to say Saturday night?”
HENRY: “They are jumping all over her and that is typically what they do but this is about national security. What Hillary Clinton — that was supposed to be her strength as former secretary of state. The last debate in Iowa she slipped up saying about ISIS 24 hours after the terror attacks in France this is not America’s fight. She had to clean that up. This weekend she said that U.S. strategy in dealing with ISIS is now in the right place. A lot of people disagreeing with that statement. She went after Donald Trump and said ISIS is using a video to rally supporters and recruit more terrorist. Donald trump demanding an apology because her staff can’t say which videos are out there. Listen to Marco Rubio.”

RUBIO: “She was the secretary of state for 4-7 years and the threat of ISIS began to emerge in Syria while she was still the secretary of state and fully blossomed right after she left.”
[clip ends]
HENRY: “The Clinton camp believes she has strong national security credentials. Some of the issues may come back in the general election.”
MACCALLUM: “There is a lot of pre-game hype that Bernie Sanders was going to hit harder on that data breach. But it seems that there are sort of protecting Clinton?”
HENRY: “A little bit. Because, you right — Bernie Sanders apologize at the beginning of the debate saying he is sorry some of his staffers went in and looked at the playbook. Clinton said she accepted the apology. It is reminiscent of the first debate where sanders said I don’t care about your e-mails. It is an example of Democrats saying they will not hit Clinton hard on these issues. And I think let’s not forget, for the second time in a row, a Democratic debate late on a Saturday night. Why is that significant? The next debate is January 17th. That is a Sunday Martha. And what else is happening on that Sunday? Two NFL playoff games. So if there’s any other Clinton slip-ups, a lot of people are going to be watching football on that day.”
