RFK Jr.: It’s Really Important that the Democratic Party Make Itself a Template for Democracy
EXCERPT:
KENNEDY JR.: "I don’t know, Laura. I think that this — you know, we’re living in a time in this country when there’s so many Americans who feel like this whole system, the economic system and the political system, are rigged against them, but also that elections are actually rigged. And I think it’s really important that the Democratic Party make itself a template for democracy that, you know, we conduct elections where politicians are doing retail politics, where there’s town halls, where there’s the hurly-burly of debate where we have to go into nail parlors and diners and get questioned by the public and understand -- that’s the only way that you really understand the desperation that Americans are living in today, to go out and talk to them without that kind of insulation and outside of the bubble. And I think it’s really important for us to show we’re a real democracy, that we’re going to talk to our adversaries, that we’re going to win in the marketplace of ideas, and that this isn’t the kind of Soviet system where the party picks the candidates and then tells you how to vote for that is actually a real election. So I hope at some point President Biden will share my sympathies and will debate his opponents."
