Former Vice President Biden, who is fending off attacks from his 2020 rivals for being too old to run, suffered an embarrassing senior moment in Thursday night's debate.

During an answer on what he'll do about guns in the United States, Biden repeatedly got tongue tied, slurred his words, and then boasted of having banned "the number of clips in a gun."

Presumably Biden meant to say he helped limit the number of bullets allowable in a clip.

MADDOW: “Vice president Biden, 30 seconds.”

BIDEN: “A real 30 seconds?”

MADDOW: “A real 30 seconds.”

“I’m the only person that beat the NRA nationally,” Biden boasted. “I’m the guy that got the Brady Bill passed, background checks, number one. Number two, we increased that background check during the Obama-Biden administration. I’m also the only guy that got assault weapons banned, banned, and the number of clips in a gun banned.”

“So, folks, look, I would buy back those weapons,” he said of assault weapons. “We already started talking about that, we tried to get it done. I this I it can be done and it should be demanded that we do it and that’s a good expenditure money.”

Biden ended his answer with a call for requiring every gun sold to include “biometric” scanners.

“And lastly, we should have smart guns itself,” he said. “No gun should be able to be sold unless your biometric measure can pull that trigger. It’s within our right to to that, we can do that. Our enemy is the gun manufacturers, not the NRA. The gun manufacturers.”

This wasn’t the only odd moment for Biden. On two separate occasions the former veep cut himself off and announced that his time was up.
