Rep. Brown: ‘I’m Going to Join My Federal Public Servants’ in Their Hardship by Having My Salary Withheld

‘I’m going to put myself in the same position as civil servants’

EXCERPT:

BROWN: “Craig, let me answer this question and certainly the comment, respond to the comment made by the gentleman you were just interviewing. So, congress right now expects to receive a pay at the end of January. I am sending a letter this morning that is directed to the chief administrative officer of the U.S. House of Representatives and I’m asking that my paycheck be withheld until such time the federal government is opened. So, I’m going to put myself in the same position as civil servants, federal government employees, many of whom are still on the job and not getting paid. Yesterday I spent hours at a church, town hall listening to federal government employees whose were sobbing and weeping. This is real. This is a hardship that the president could end today by opening up government. I’m going to join my federal public servants in that hardship by asking the chief administrative officer to withhold my salary."
