2008 Flashback: Hillary Says Sheldon Silver Is a ‘Stalwart Voice’ for New Yorkers

Silver was convicted today on seven federal counts of corruption

Today the former Hillary Clinton ally and former head of New York's Democratic delegation, Sheldon Silver, was convicted seven federal counts of corruption. Silver endorsed Clinton's presidential campaign in 2008. He also helped her 2000 election to the U.S. Senate from New York.

At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Clinton singled Silver out for praise, saying he's long been a "stalwart voice" for New Yorkers.

"And I want to thank our great governor. I think David Patterson is doing an extraordinary job under very challenging circumstances. And he's got great partners by his side; Speaker Shelly Silver, the head of our delegation, who has been a stalwart voice on behalf of the needs of New Yorkers."
