At National Action Network, Sen. Gillibrand Hails Stacey Abrams for Refusing to Concede

‘The truth is, our work isn’t done because there has been this attack on voting rights, there has been this attack on one person, one vote’

EXCERPT:

GILLIBRAND: “And after President Trump was inaugurated, people stood up. And it was perhaps for some people the first time they stood up, the first time they marched, the first time they made a sign. And why the women’s March was so powerful it was because it is inter-sectional. It didn’t matter if your sign said women’s reproductive freedom or black lives matter or equal pay for equal work, or clean air and clear water, it's just matter you had your sign and that you wanted to fight for it. And that activism has not stopped for a minute. We saw it with the children who marched on Washington to end gun violence. We saw with number of people and the vigils here during the Kavanaugh hearings to say no to someone who did not share their values. We saw it in the number of women who ran for office and won. Extraordinary candidates like Lucy McBath who ran on the outside of Atlanta because she lost a son to gun violence. She ran from her heart about what was right. Candidates, extraordinary candidates like Stacey Abrams who is not done counting every single vote. And so the truth is, our work isn’t done because there has been this attack on voting rights, there has been this attack on one person, one vote. And so what we have to do is fight back to make sure we can have simple things like early registration, having by mail voting no matter the day or reason, making sure our actual electoral system is right and fair.”
