Susan Page: Obama Skipping on Paris Visit Like Bush’s New Orleans Flyover After Katrina (RealClearPolitics)
On Tuesday's edition of MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports, USA Today reporter Susan Page likened President Obama not going to Paris to march with world leaders to former President George W. Bush's flyover of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Page said an Obama visit would have shown that he "cared" and that the United States stands with other nations in this "new war on terror."
"It's inexplicable," Page said on MSNBC. "We don't have an understanding of what happened and whether somebody should be held responsible."
"You know, sometimes showing up is important. Remember When George W. Bush didn't show up in New Orleans after Katrina?
"And flew over and they released a picture from Air Force One," Andrea Mitchell said.
"It's not that he was going to repair the breach in New Orleans, he was going to show up and showed that he cared. The same situation here. President Obama would've shown up -- should've shown up, clearly, the White House acknowledges that now -- to show the United States stands with France and Germany and the other nations represented there in this new war on terror," Page said.
