The experience of sexual assault is both — it’s very personal but it’s a collective experience. That’s why all of us were saying look at us, look at me. And by looking at me see all of us as the country and do something which you have within your power today to signal to the country that you will help change the culture that doesn’t believe us, that forces us to provide all the evidence, that starts out by assuming that our stories are not real and that fundamentally fails to understand the nature of sexual violence and the nature of trauma that lasts for decades."
