Jeff Merkley on Trump Puerto Rico Success Comment: He’s a ‘Hero in His Own Mind’

‘The administration did a horrific job with the recovery’

EXCERPT:

BERMAN: "Up on the screen right now underneath you, we have what the president said yesterday about the Puerto Rico response. He called it an unsung success. This morning -- let me read what the president wrote, because I think he disputes the claim that you just made right there. The president says: We got A Pluses for our recent hurricane work in Texas and Florida. And then parenthetically he said and did an unappreciated great job in Puerto Rico, even though an inaccessible island and a totally incompetent mayor of San Juan. He then goes on to say we are ready for the big one that’s coming!"
MERKLEY: "Well an A+ is only in his own mind. And I’m sure he’s a hero in his own mind. But in the reality on the ground, you would have to give this failing grades."
