Joey Chestnut Sets Record, Eats Nine Pounds of Turkey in Ten Minutes
‘I’ve never seen anything like it’
Joey Chestnut sets record at World Turkey-Eating Championship (Fox St. Louis)
Contestants in the World Turkey-Eating Championship Saturday got an early start to Thanksgiving. Each contestant was given a 20-pound turkey and ten minutes to eat as much of it as possible. When the time was up, turkeys were weighed to see who ate the most.
Well-known competitive eater Joey Chestnut “gobbled” down 9.35 pounds of turkey. That was enough to set a new world record and walk away with $5,000.
The other contestants split the rest of the $10,000 pot.
