Confused NYPD Officer Kicks Fellow Cop in the Head Thinking He’s a Suspect

The footage is a rare example of cop-on-cop violence

NYPD Cop Accidentally Kicks Another Cop in Head (Mediaite)

Guys! We found it! It’s a real-life example of cop-on-cop violence!

The video, taken in early January of 2014, shows two cops in the middle of arresting a turnstile jumper at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue stop and wrestling him to the ground. Nothing special, just your everyday instance of the NYPD’s excessive use of force — until a plainclothes cop and his cop friends bumrush the wrestling, and the plainclothes cop pauses, probably thinking, Oh, a suspect! I should kick this man in the head while wearing my steel-toe Timberlands. And then, an audible THWACK.

“He kicked a cop!” a woman laughed to the side, and as the cop slowly realized his mistake, he patted the other cop gingerly on the head, scooted him out of the way, and went back to punching the suspect in the face.

DNAInfo reports that the cop was stripped of his gun and badge, and is currently under investigation by the NYPD’s Department of Internal Affairs and Brooklyn’ District Attorney. The turnstile jumper pled guilty to a reduced charge.
