Retired Rear Admiral John Kirby, the former spokesman for President Obama’s State Department, told CNN on Tuesday that President Trump’s new secretary of state would be more credible on the world’s stage than Rex Tillerson.

“In Mike Pompeo, one can assume that the president is getting a secretary of state more aligned with his thinking,” Kirby said. “That’s the president’s right. He deserves to have Cabinet officers who espouse his worldview.”

The former state department official predicted that it would be good for U.S. diplomacy, and Pompeo would be more credible than Tillerson because of his close relationship with the president.
