Fox News: Rupert Murdoch Wants Facebook, Google to Pay a Fee to Trusted News Publishers for Content

‘Mr. Murdoch stated those two companies have become in his words inherently unreliable for distributing news’

EXCERPT:

BOLTON: "Hi, Bill, good morning. This is a surprise announcement from Mr. Murdoch but it is one that many analysts say was due to come from somewhere for both Facebook and Google. Mr. Murdoch stated that those two companies' algorithms have become in his words inherently unreliable for distributing news, so Facebook and Google asked to follow just as much media companies, if you like, as tech companies. The argument is that Facebook and Google should start paying publishers, 'Wall Street Journal,' 'New York Times,' 'Washington Post' for content that is displayed on their site. So it's a lot like the cable business model. Due to public pressure, Facebook has said it would favor news story from trusted sources, but it actually didn't give any more details as to which publishers are being considered trusted or elaborate on its survey methods."
