John Kennedy: It’s ‘Wrong’ and ‘Totally Dysfunctional’ for Dems to Shut Down the Gov’t Over Amnesty

‘At a bare minimum we want to do a continuing resolution to keep government open’

EXCERPT:

HEMMER: "Will your government stay open? The clock is running on a deal. President Trump warning a shutdown will be devastating for the military. Democrats pushing for a DACA fix if they want any votes on the funding agreement. Doesn't look like that's going to happen, at least not this week. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeting this: 'With no imminent deadline on immigration, and with bipartisan talks well underway, there is no reason why Congress should hold government funding hostage.' Louisiana Senator John Kennedy is on the Senate Budget Committee. Sir, how are you? And good morning. Welcome back."
KENNEDY: "I'm well. And good morning to you too, Bill."
HEMMER: "Where do we stand on the Senate side, sir? Do you have the votes or not?"
KENNEDY: "It depends on the Democrats. I mean, the facts are pretty clear. We don’t have a budget, everybody else in America has a budget. The United States government doesn’t. We -- we want to put together a budget. At a bare minimum we want to do a continuing resolution to keep government open. And the Democrats say that what’s more important to them than keeping government open is amnesty. And I hope that the Democrats give in. I think for them to shut down the federal government would be a disservice to the American people. I think some of my friends on the Democratic side think the American people are stupid -- they’re not. The American people may not read [indecipherable] but they understand what’s going on. The Democrats are prepared to shut down government because they want amnesty. Now, I mean, it’s -- it's -- in my opinion they are just wrong and it's  -- it's -- it's totally dysfunctional. But we’ll know -- we'll by this time tomorrow."
