EXCERPT:

TRUMP: "The toughest calls I have to make are the calls where this happens, soldiers are killed. ... The traditional way, if you look at President Obama and other presidents, the most of them didn’t make calls, a lot of them didn’t make calls. I like to call when it’s appropriate, when I think I’m able to do it."
[clip ends]
KILMEDE: "So the president of the United States, speaking a couple days ago about how tough it is to make the call to the families of those lost in battle. And then the debate has raged since then. Joining us now is Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence and second lady of the United States, whose son is serving in the military right now. From your -- great to see, Mrs. Pence. Thanks so much for joining us."
DOOCY: "Good morning."
EARHARDT: "Good morning."
K. PENCE: "Great to see you guys. Good morning."
KILMEADE: "When you see the president interacting with military and sometimes in those tough situations, how would you characterize his demeanor?"
K. PENCE: "Well, you know, it’s interesting, Mike and I both have had the privilege of being with lots of our military and frequently we’re with the president and Melania. And I've never seen someone who has such respect for the military; his compassion and his care is -- is so obvious when he is with these families."
EARHARDT: "I’m sure that means a lot to you considering the fact that your son is in the Marines and you are a military family. Thank you for coming on this morning, because you have a big announcement."
K. PENCE: "We do. One of the privileges of being second lady is that you are able to choose one initiative to kind of highlight. And when I was thinking about what should I talk about, I decided to talk about art therapy. And this is a profession that’s very misunderstood. I first found out about art therapy in 2006. And here I was someone with a master’s degree in art education. I consider myself to dabble as an artist. I'd never heard of art therapy. And art therapy is the profession -- really these are clinical psychologists who use art as their medium. And it is absolutely amazing to see these people at work who -- who will take, for example, a veteran with PTSD, start them working in clay or masks and -- and their brain is reprogrammed. And a lot of these vets have told me after they have worked in art therapy, they don’t go to that dark place anymore. And it’s just an amazing profession that’s very misunderstood, so I -- I have decided to champion that as my issue."
