Biography
Andrew is a writer and comedian. He is the co-writer of internet sensation Jonathan Pie, the spoof news reporter created by Tom Walker. Andrew started writing for Pie in December 2015, and since then has collaborated with Tom on weekly online videos and two live shows. The first, Jonathan Pie: Live, toured the UK in 2016/17 and culminated in a sell-out performance at the London Palladium. Their second show, Jonathan Pie: Back to the Studio, toured the UK earlier this year and went on to tour Australia. Their online video responding to the US election result has had in excess of 150 million views. They also co-wrote and released a new book called Jonathan Pie: Off the Record at the end of last year. Andrew is also the stand-up support act for Jonathan Pie and has performed at the Palladium and the Hammersmith Apollo.
Andrew recently appeared at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in his sixth solo stand-up show Thought Crimes, which ran at the Soho Theatre in London in July. His previous solo stand-up shows are Future Tense, Minimalism!, Zero Tolerance, Whatever it Takes, and Crash Course in Depravity. Andrew is the co-founder of a new comedy night in London for free-thinking acts called Comedy Unleashed.
His plays include Borderland (national tour for 7:84, Scotland), Jimmy Murphy Makes Amends (BBC Radio 4) and The Second Mr Bailey (BBC Radio 4). His new plays Reacher’s Point and Poster Girl were recently broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Borderland was revived by Soda Bread Theatre Company and ran at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast in July of this year. Andrew has co-written a parody show called Graeme of Thrones, which toured the UK, America, Canada and Australia, and recently ran in London’s west end. He wrote The Hollywood Special Effects Show, which toured major venues in the UK and the US.
He has worked on a number of musicals with Craig Adams, including adaptations of Terry Pratchett’s Soul Music (Rose Theatre, Kingston), Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio (Castle Theatre, Wellingborough), and Dodie Smith’s The Hundred and One Dalmatians (Castle Theatre, Wellingborough). Andrew and Craig are currently working on a new musical, The Guinea Pig Club, in assocation with Perfect Pitch.
Andrew adapted Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels for the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, in collaboration with platinum-selling singer/songwriter Duke Special. Andrew and Duke Special are currently working on an adaptation of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn, also for the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. They recently collaborated on Paperboy, a musical set in Northern Ireland in 1975 at the height of the troubles, based on the autobiography by Tony Macaulay.
Andrew regularly appears on Sky News to comment on politics and current affairs. He is a columnist for Spiked online magazine.
