Michael Alan Sam, Jr. (born January 7, 1990) is an American football defensive end. He attended the University of Missouri, where he played college football for the Missouri Tigers football team for four years. He was a consensus All-American in his senior year.

After completing his college football career, Sam came out as gay. If he were to be signed by an NFL team, which analysts think is likely, he would then become the first player to be openly gay during his time in the NFL.
