Abigail Anne Spanberger (/ˈspænbɜːrɡər/ SPAN-bur-gər; née Davis; born August 7, 1979) is an American politician and former CIA officer serving as the U.S. representative from Virginia’s 7th congressional district since 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Spanberger defeated Republican incumbent Dave Brat in 2018, ending the Republican Party’s 38-year hold on the district. She won reelection in 2020 and 2022. In November 2023 Spanberger announced that she would be retiring from the House in order to run for governor of Virginia.
Spanberger is married to Adam Spanberger, an engineer, and they have three daughters. In 2014, the family moved back to Henrico County. They live in Glen Allen, Virginia. She is a Protestant.
