Biography
Jeff Jellets has 25 years of experience in the field of emergency management. He is currently the territorial disaster coordinator for The Salvation Army’s Southern Headquarters, based out of Atlanta. As the territorial disaster coordinator, Mr. Jellets is responsible for coordinating support to Salvation Army units in 15 states and the District of Columbia and for provides training and other technical guidance during disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
Mr. Jellets began his career in emergency management in 1992, working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a Public Information Officer and Community Outreach Team Leader. He also spent time working for the American Red Cross as the Georgia State Disaster Specialist and served as a Public Information Officer for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). In January 2001, Mr. Jellets became the territorial disaster coordinator for the Salvation Army.
Mr. Jellets has been deployed in leadership positions on numerous disaster operations, beginning with the 1994 Northridge CA Earthquake. As the Salvation Army’s territorial disaster coordinator, Mr. Jellets was deployed to New York City in the wake of the 9-11 terrorist attacks and also coordinated the largest disaster response operation in the charity’s history, responding to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
His most recent disaster assignment was to 2015’s Baton Rouge floods.
Mr. Jellets has a Masters Degree in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University and, in 2007, became a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). Mr. Jellets currently serves as a member of IAEM’s CEM Commission and as a representative to NFPA’s 1600 Technical Committee.
