PERSON: Bob Opsahl

Bob Opsahl, anchor, Eyewitness News, WFTV-Channel 9. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I grew up in a military family. My dad was a B-52 bomber pilot, so we were often transferred to different Air Force bases, around the country. After 8 or 9 moves, we wound up in Orlando in 1968. And I’ve been here ever since… minus the four years I spent in the Navy, as an Interior Communications Technician.
During my senior year at UCF, I started my career in broadcasting, at WMFE-TV… thanks to the man who ran the station until recently, Stephen McKenney Steck. My two years at Channel 24 laid the foundation for what would become a long career in television news. Since 1978, I have worked as a reporter and anchor, at WFTV Channel 9.

During my forty-plus years in Orlando, I was married (for 20 years)… now divorced (for 10).

I have three grown children, and three grandchildren. And after a childhood of too many moves, I’m happy to have put down solid roots in Central Florida.
