Biography

Elected in 2010, Jaye brings a 20-year track record as a community leader and director with the city’s Economic Development division at City Hall.

In Ward 25, Jaye organized the “My Life, My City” speaker series, which promoted engagement as a catalyst for civic change. As a long time board member of a local resident’s association, she built community from the ground up, fighting to maintain and strengthen Ward 25′s unique neighbourhoods.
As a senior manager in the city’s Economic Development Division, Jaye successfully merged arts and community building initiatives with economic development strategies, creating a vibrant roster of annual events with significant economic impacts, including Nuit Blanche, Summerlicious and Winterlicious.

On City Council, Jaye has continued to look for innovative, fiscally sound solutions to Toronto’s goals and priorities. Her focus has been moving city business forward through consensus and clear, evidence-based decision making.
City Hall Priorities

Shifting Power to Neighbourhoods on Development Issues

Jaye was instrumental in brokering the compromise that led to the Port Lands Acceleration Initiative, which led to significant infrastructure cost savings and ensured that solid city-building remained the focus of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization.

As past-Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee, Jaye helped usher in Toronto’s new Seniors’ Strategy, which sets out a concrete plan to ensure that our city is age-friendly.

Jaye has also been working hard on planning reform. She helped launch a study on the feasibility of a local appeal body and has been working alongside the Chair of the Planning and Growth Management on a Federation of North Toronto Ratepayers-led review of the Committee of Adjustment
