PERSON: Mark Lutschaunig

Director of the governmental relations division

Dr. Mark Lutschaunig is the director of the Governmental Relations Division (GRD) for the American Veterinary Medical Association, based in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the GRD, Dr. Lutschaunig spent six years as manager of professional communications for Nestle Purina PetCare Company in St. Louis. In addition, he was the manager of ALPO Petfood’s animal nutrition research center and spent four years in clinical small animal practice.

As head of the Governmental Relations Division, Dr. Lutschaunig oversees the Association’s federal advocacy efforts in Washington. He holds a VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from DeSales University.

Dr. Lutschaunig has two children (boys) and is married to another veterinarian. Their household also includes two mixed-breed dogs (Phoebe the Wonderdog and Scout), which were shelter dogs; two Guinea pigs (Crunch and Nibbles), and an red-eared slider turtle (Biter).
