Biography
Danielle McLaughlin is a lawyer, strategist, author, and political and legal commentator. She has over a decade’s experience litigating in US federal and state courts, a background in engineering and marketing, and presently works at the intersection of law, policy, and planetary risks, taking a holistic, systems lens to interconnected and complex problems. She is senior legal analyst at Horizon 2045, a think tank that explores the potential for legal, normative, social, and technological approaches to solve for the confluence of planetary threats. There, she is leading efforts to leverage novel and emerging legal strategies, including intergenerational justice and climate litigation tactics, to shrink the space where the Nuclear Weapons complex can operate legally. She advises a private foundation working to lend a religious, ethical, and moral lens to the challenges and opportunities of emerging technology. She is also co-founder of PATH Collective, a for-profit social enterprise with a mission to make peace profitable. PATH leverages Web3 technologies and art to build awareness and new, commercial solutions around nuclear disarmament. This includes incubating the world’s first disarmament brand, “Free Zones” to address awareness and funding challenges in the nuclear disarmament field.
Danielle is the co-author of “The Federalist Society: How Conservatives Took the Law Back from Liberals,” a book that examines the strategies and ideologies of conservative and libertarian legal actors and their impact on various areas of U.S. law and policy. She is also a frequent columnist for the Sunday Star-Times, New Zealand’s largest Sunday newspaper, and has appeared since 2016 on various US & International TV and radio networks including CNN, Al Jazeera, Fox News, Fox Business, and TV3NZ, where she provides commentary and analysis on legal, political, and current affairs. Danielle is passionate about using her skills and knowledge, from storytelling to legal strategies, to systems disruption and innovation, to help people and organizations address the critical challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
