Biography

Andy Neiman, is currently a police lieutenant with the Los Angeles Police Department and has more than 27 years of law enforcement and emergency response experience. Neiman is currently the Officer-in-Charge of the Media Relations Section for the LAPD where he serves as the spokesperson for the Chief of Police on a daily basis. Some of his recent media relations tasks include; Dorner Manhunt, Space Shuttle Endeavor, Occupy LA, the Grimm Sleeper serial murderer case, Civil Unrest in Los Angeles, Arrest of the Department Employee for Murder and “Carmageddon” the closure of a major freeway in Los Angeles. Neiman is a Department Subject Matter Expert in NIMS and ICS and has trained more than 5,000 individuals throughout the western region. He recently served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Emergency Management Section for LAPD from 2007 – 2010, and was responsible for planning and managing hundreds of pre-planned major events and critical incidents, including; major wildland fires, earthquakes, civil unrest, presidential and dignitary visits, major awards shows including the Academy Awards, Grammys, Emmys and other nationally televised productions. Neiman has a degree in Communicative Disorders with and emphasis in Audiology, and recently reviewed and approved a FEMA training course developed for sign language interpreters who respond to emergencies and disasters. Neiman has an extensive background in developing Incident Action Plans for major incidents and has held every position within the Incident Command System. His ability to work with local, state, federal and international organizations has enabled him to hone his crisis communication skills and critical thinking during a variety of incidents and events. He also served as the Detective Commanding Officer for in the San Fernando Valley, direct oversight of investigations conducted by a team of more than 65 investigators. Andy prides himself on his interactive teaching style and curriculum development.
