Biography
Doug Burns has been practicing law since 1985. Originally from Nassau County, New York, where he attended public high school, playing varsity basketball and tennis, he is an honors graduate of Union College (where he played varsity tennis) in Schenectady, NY and of the Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY. He began his legal career with Shea and Gould in New York City, and subsequently joined the U.S. Department of Justice, where he served as a federal prosecutor for 9 years (1987-1996) in the Criminal Division of the Eastern District of New York. He left the office as a Deputy Chief in the Long Island Criminal Division, and since leaving government has practiced law in the private sector, primarily in the area of White Collar Defense. His main practice areas have been Securities and Exchange Commission matters, federal tax matters, and other federal criminal investigations, trials and appeals. He also practices criminal law in the NY State Courts. Doug has extensive experience as both a television and radio legal commentator, having appeared since 2003 more than 700 times on the Fox News Channel, as well as on other segments on television and radio outlets, including the Fox Business Channel, Bloomberg Television, CNN Headline News, Court TV, Bloomberg Radio 1130 am, WOR 710 am and WLIE 540 am (Business Talk Radio). Doug is also quoted in the print media, relating to financial crime stories and is available to and provides assistance to various legal print journalists with their stories.
