Chief Oscar Perez, hailing from Medellin, Colombia, migrated to the United States at 13. With a career spanning 29 years in the Providence Police Department, Perez has held diverse roles including Patrol Officer, Youth Service Detective, and leadership positions within various divisions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University and a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Boston University. Perez’s accolades include commendations for aiding FBI narcotics operations and assisting in apprehending individuals involved in violent crimes. He is a distinguished graduate of leadership programs such as Leadership Rhode Island, the Harvard Kennedy School Program, and the FBI National Academy.
