Biography

Dan Murphy is a Business Reporter at SKY NEWS Business, located in the SKY NEWS Martin Place, Sydney studio.

He joined the team in July 2011 as a Liaison Producer. Dan then moved to Sydney to join SKY NEWS Business, starting out as a Business Producer and CBD Reporter. He then accepted the role as Melbourne Reporter before relocating west to Perth to take up the role of Perth Reporter.

Dan has interviewed some of Australia’s most respected business leaders; including Wesfarmers CEO Richard Goyder, Holden CEO Mike Devereux and Telstra CFO Andrew Penn. He has also had access to members of Michael Jackson’s family during their tour of Australia, Rio Tinto executives during the opening of the Argyle Diamond Mine and had the opportunity to fly to Geraldton to cover the arrival of the first asylum seeker boat to reach the mainland in five years.

In 2013 Dan was on the ground reporting for the Parkerville, WA and Blue Mountains, NSW bushfires. He also travelled to the Northern Territory, where he followed the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader during their tour of Darwin, covering the welcome home parade for the final contingent of Australian soldiers returning home from Afghanistan.

Dan also travelled on special assignment to Boeing Headquarters in Seattle, USA – Profiling Indigenous artist Paddy Bedford and the unveiling of ‘Mendoorwoorji’ – the latest Qantas flying art series aircraft.

More recently Dan played a major role in the SKY NEWS coverage of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

Dan graduated from Curtin University with a Major in Journalism. Prior to joining SKY NEWS Dan was also a Newsreader at the university radio station CurtinFM.

When he isn’t on the road covering local news stories, Dan is a keen surfer who also enjoys travelling, keeping fit, good coffee and the Fremantle Dockers.
