Nicole Valdes is a Emmy nominated journalist and national correspondent leading coverage of major weather disasters across the US. She has lead the network’s coverage of catastrophic events including Hurricane Ian’s impact on Florida, the Eastern Kentucky Floods and record breaking snowfall in southern California. Her dedication to reporting and digging deeper infulenced her latest accomplishment: writer, reporter, editor and producer of “Ruin and Resurrection: The Fury of Hurricane Maria”. The hour long special explores the challenges on the US territory as it struggles to recover from one of the deadliest hurricanes in American history.
Prior to her switch to national correspondent, Nicole spent three years leading market coverage of major stories at ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix. Some of her most notable work includes leading coverage of the 2020 Election in Arizona, fact-checking misinformation and breaking developments on dozens of challenges to Arizona’s results after a historically red state helped elect Joe Biden. Nicole’s exclusive reporting on an unwarranted assault of a Phoenix man led to firing, discipline of two high-level Phoenix Police officers. She broke a major consumer investigation exposing defect in cars manufactured by seven automakers that led to investigation by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and her coverage of the shooting death of 14 year-old boy at the hands of a valley police department led to discovery of officers battled with PTSD.
