Biography

Jason Elliott has worked for Governor Gavin Newsom since his inauguration in 2019. Jason currently serves as Governor Newsom’s Deputy Chief of Staff, a position in which Jason advises the Governor on a variety of policy issues and matters of state operations. For several years through the Covid pandemic, he led the Administration’s agenda on housing and homelessness.

Prior to serving in the Administration, Jason served as a Senior Advisor to both Governor-elect Newsom’s transition and Newsom’s campaign for Governor of California.

Prior to that, he worked in the San Francisco Mayor’s Office for nearly a decade. He served as Chief of Staff to San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee, a position he held for Mayor London Breed after Mayor Lee’s untimely passing. Jason also held a variety of positions prior to being Chief of Staff, including two years in Gavin Newsom’s administration as Mayor’s Policy Advisor from 2008 to 2010.

Jason is a graduate of Columbia University and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He grew up in Palo Alto, CA and lives with his wife, Nicole and their baby daughter, Lucy.
