Biography

Tracy Beth Høeg, MD, PhD, is a native of Wisconsin and a Danish-American dual citizen. She received her BA with honors in French and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She received her MD degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and during this time received a research grant to study dementia at Harvard Medical School. She completed a Transitional Year Internship at Gundersen Lutheran in Wisconsin. Shortly after starting Ophthalmology residency in the US, she and her Danish husband moved to Denmark. In Denmark, she quickly learned Danish and became a licensed physician working in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Ophthalmology. She also led a large population-based epidemiological study in a small city called Næstved and received her PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from University of Copenhagen. After 7 years abroad and following receipt of her PhD, she did post- doctoral work on validating diagnostic testing. In 2015, her family moved back to the United States and she completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UC Davis, where she was Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in Interventional Sports, Spine and Regenerative Medicine in Napa, California at the Bodor Clinic.

Dr. Høeg is highly qualified to treat disorders and injuries of musculoskeletal system such as tendon, joint, cartilage and bone as well as disorders of the spine which can cause neck, back and sciatica pain. Additionally, she is highly qualified to perform interventional spine procedures such as epidurals and facet injections. She is also trained in the use of Botox for spasticity and sees patients with spinal cord injuries, post-stroke, post-amputation, post-brain injury, post-polio and cerebral palsy. In addition to performing a thorough history and physical examination, Dr. Høeg uses EMG/NCS and ultrasound to diagnose disorders of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Dr. Høeg believes in both holistic and evidence-based care. She develops specific exercise programs and simple lifestyle modifications for unique conditions once a diagnosis is made. She will also discuss the evidence for/against injection treatments she offers, mostly done using ultrasound guidance, including dextrose prolotherapy, corticosteroid injections, hyaluronic acid injections, platelet rich plasma and bone marrow aspirate concentrate injections.

Following years working as an adjunct associate professor and research associate at the University of California-Davis, she has been doing her most recent epidemiological research at the VK Prasad Lab at the University of California in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is also currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Southern Denmark. She has recently had scientific articles/epidemiological investigations published as first or senior author in The New England Journal of Medicine, Pediatrics, British Medical Journal-Evidence Based Medicine, American Journal of Medicine, British Journal of Sports Medicine, the CDC’s MMWR and the Journal of Medical Ethics.

She is a lifelong writer and journalist as worked as a columnist for Emmie Music Magazine and UltraRunning Magazine and has also been published in The New York Times, Tablet Magazine, The Atlantic, The LA Times and The Washington Post among others. She is fluent in English, Danish and French and can converse in and reads Spanish, Norwegian and Swedish.

She is an avid runner, has run for Salomon and competed with Team USA and Team Denmark in the World Championship running events. She is also a competitive triathlete and cyclist. She is married to Rasmus Tetens Høeg, an assistant professor of Hematology working in Bone Marrow Transplant at UC Davis. They have four children: Natali, Andreas, Christian and Mattias.
