Chief of Police

Wendell Franklin is a 25-year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department where he serves as the Chief of Police. Prior to his appointment as the Chief of Police, he served the Tulsa Police Department as a Major in the Headquarters Division and before that, as a Major of both the Gilcrease and Riverside Patrol Divisions. Chief Franklin holds a bachelor’s degree from Langston University. He grew up in Tulsa, attending Tulsa Public Schools and graduating from the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School. Wendell Franklin believes his wife of 27 years and two sons are his greatest asset. He is active in a number of community organizations within the Tulsa area and is a member of the supervisory board for a local financial institution. Chief Franklin graduated from the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police in 2015, the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy in 2016, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Executive Institute in 2022. Wendell Franklin is a certified instructor for law enforcement organizations across the state of Oklahoma.
