Biography

Olivia Beavers is a reporter covering Congress in The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau.

Her stories often explore the personalities, policies and politics unfolding on Capitol Hill, including power struggles between Democrats and Republicans and intra-party feuds. Her coverage also explores the various factions within the parties, including the House Freedom Caucus and its clashes with party leaders.

Olivia joined the Journal from Politico, where she often broke news on House GOP leadership and the Republican Party more broadly. She started at Politico in 2021 as author of its flagship Congress newsletter, now called “Inside Congress.”

Previously, Olivia reported for the Hill, where she covered House-led investigations and was the outlet’s lead reporter during the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump. She also covered national security and cybersecurity during her time at the newspaper.

A Virginia native, Olivia began her career as a CNN news associate during the 2016 presidential elections, where she ran scripts and teleprompters for various shows. She then moved to print reporting when she joined the Hill in 2017.
