Biography
Colin D’Mello joined CTV News in May, 2011 as a reporter and in November, 2011 he was appointed Weekend Co-Anchor on Toronto’s #1 news team. Weekdays D’Mello continues to reports in the field and on weekends, alongside his co-anchor Andria Case, he brings an engaging view on the day’s top stories.
Since joining CTV News, D’Mello has covered everything from the summer parades to provincial elections. In Feb., 2012, D’Mello anchored alongside Andria Case as details of the Via Rail train derailment in Burlington developed.
D’Mello jump-started his career as a 19-year-old when he moved to Moncton, NB as an announcer at News 91.9. He then helped launch 1310News, and all news radio station in Ottawa, before moving to Toronto where he spent four years as an anchor and city hall reporter at 680 News. While there, he was part of award-winning coverage of the 2008 propane explosion, the Tamil protesters occupying the Gardiner Expressway in May, 2009, and the G20 protests in 2010.
D’Mello was born in Kuwait and lived there until 1998. He credits the events of the first Gulf War for shaping his interests in storytelling. D’Mello is a graduate of the broadcast journalism program at Seneca College.
