transgender in the ░░░░░░░░ but I will do ░░░░░░░░ whole lot more than ░░░░░░░░ and I d like ░░░░░░░░ talk to you right ░░░░░░░░ about what that will ░░░░░░░░ in order to do ░░░░░░░░ though I d like ░░░░░░░░ talk to you a ░░░░░░░░ bit about my own ░░░░░░░░ with what was for ░░░░░░░░ when I was a ░░░░░░░░ woman called the gay ░░░░░░░░ today lgbtqia but when ░░░░░░░░ was a younger woman ░░░░░░░░ ll be talking about ░░░░░░░░ gay community we were ░░░░░░░░ about gay lesbian bisexual ░░░░░░░░ very early in my ░░░░░░░░ the Aged community the ░░░░░░░░ epidemic exploded onto the ░░░░░░░░ I was giving lectures ░░░░░░░░ Los Angeles and in ░░░░░░░░ York and those two ░░░░░░░░ were very hard hit ░░░░░░░░ was very active with ░░░░░░░░ AIDS epidemic and of ░░░░░░░░ we were all very ░░░░░░░░ aware that the rampant ░░░░░░░░ in this country had ░░░░░░░░ large part to do ░░░░░░░░ a lot to do ░░░░░░░░ the fact that gay ░░░░░░░░ were not being given ░░░░░░░░ services at that time ░░░░░░░░ they needed I also ░░░░░░░░ that I think that ░░░░░░░░ was the only public ░░░░░░░░ a straight person who ░░░░░░░░ a lot of noise ░░░░░░░░ about being in support ░░░░░░░░ marriage equality well a ░░░░░░░░ of people were still ░░░░░░░░ they were evolving on ░░░░░░░░ issue but I have ░░░░░░░░ something that has happened ░░░░░░░░ the last few years ░░░░░░░░ for any of us ░░░░░░░░ don t have to ░░░░░░░░ lgbtqia just to be ░░░░░░░░ just to be human ░░░░░░░░ s extremely upsetting and ░░░░░░░░ is that I have ░░░░░░░░ felt that gay people ░░░░░░░░ have rights in America ░░░░░░░░ we re all Americans ░░░░░░░░ something darker is going ░░░░░░░░ right now right now ░░░░░░░░ see the lgbtqia community ░░░░░░░░ an at risk population ░░░░░░░░ so now and as ░░░░░░░░ I see this as ░░░░░░░░ citizen I feel it ░░░░░░░░ a candidate and I ░░░░░░░░ you I will see ░░░░░░░░ as president this is ░░░░░░░░ just something where you ░░░░░░░░ have equal rights you ░░░░░░░░ have equal and special ░░░░░░░░ right now Applause something ░░░░░░░░ going on and it ░░░░░░░░ very dark and that ░░░░░░░░ is very dark has ░░░░░░░░ do with a great ░░░░░░░░ of the 21st century ░░░░░░░░ the great battle of ░░░░░░░░ 21st century the will you make the ░░░░░░░░ now to protect protect ░░░░░░░░ make protections in place ░░░░░░░░ end LGBTQ workplace discrimination ░░░░░░░░ the first 100 days ░░░░░░░░ your office so that ░░░░░░░░ educators and all employees ░░░░░░░░ do their Jobs without ░░░░░░░░ in fear of losing ░░░░░░░░ them or being discriminated ░░░░░░░░ for who they love ░░░░░░░░ absolutely will and I ░░░░░░░░ tell you hundred days for ░░░░░░░░ Americans thank you thanks ░░░░░░░░ this opportunity very much ░░░░░░░░ m Joe Sestak and ░░░░░░░░ War the cloth of ░░░░░░░░ country for over 31 ░░░░░░░░ in war and in ░░░░░░░░ the very first ship ░░░░░░░░ was on it was ░░░░░░░░ compartment filled with 60 ░░░░░░░░ packed like sardines gone ░░░░░░░░ months and when he ░░░░░░░░ back everybody knew everybody ░░░░░░░░ ░░░░░░░░ and a half they ░░░░░░░░ didn t care just ░░░░░░░░ long as everyone did ░░░░░░░░ job when I came ░░░░░░░░ from that war I ░░░░░░░░ out my daughter had ░░░░░░░░ cancer I waited as ░░░░░░░░ was in a safe ░░░░░░░░ and then I went ░░░░░░░░ to where I growing ░░░░░░░░ to a nearly two ░░░░░░░░ one Republican district and ░░░░░░░░ I announced the second ░░░░░░░░ I had is hey ░░░░░░░░ what do you think ░░░░░░░░ Don t Ask Don ░░░░░░░░ Tell I said I ░░░░░░░░ gone to war with ░░░░░░░░ we knew were gay ░░░░░░░░ can I come home ░░░░░░░░ say they don t ░░░░░░░░ equal rights even more ░░░░░░░░ Music Applause even more ░░░░░░░░ whenever they would come ░░░░░░░░ as I was growing ░░░░░░░░ through the ranks and ░░░░░░░░ of them would come ░░░░░░░░ and say hey captain ░░░░░░░░ just want to let ░░░░░░░░ know all I could ░░░░░░░░ in my mind was ░░░░░░░░ don t tell me ░░░░░░░░ re too good I ░░░░░░░░ t afford to lose ░░░░░░░░ that s what we ░░░░░░░░ to remember about the ░░░░░░░░ community and everyone else ░░░░░░░░ is a marginalized community ░░░░░░░░ the military we want ░░░░░░░░ best of the best ░░░░░░░░ them all because yes ░░░░░░░░ want equal rights and ░░░░░░░░ individual to be all ░░░░░░░░ might be but when ░░░░░░░░ do they joined together ░░░░░░░░ that common enterprise that ░░░░░░░░ good that the mission ░░░░░░░░ the United States military ░░░░░░░░ better because they re ░░░░░░░░ and that is why ░░░░░░░░ first thing that must ░░░░░░░░ done as president is ░░░░░░░░ remove that banned on ░░░░░░░░ persons don t have ░░░░░░░░ back into the military ░░░░░░░░ also to welcome back ░░░░░░░░ we unceremoniously relieved of ░░░░░░░░ because we should not ░░░░░░░░ any person behind but ░░░░░░░░ but then that s ░░░░░░░░ we have to do ░░░░░░░░ we ve said before ░░░░░░░░ belief ░░░░░░░░ able to now you ░░░░░░░░ next job but then ░░░░░░░░ have to step back ░░░░░░░░ protect the LGBTQ community ░░░░░░░░ go to a prison ░░░░░░░░ year to visit my ░░░░░░░░ but best both as ░░░░░░░░ congressman and also when ░░░░░░░░ got out because they ░░░░░░░░ t want the vets ░░░░░░░░ to think I d ░░░░░░░░ them it s a ░░░░░░░░ tough place there how ░░░░░░░░ we not remove that ░░░░░░░░ rule they are in ░░░░░░░░ pre oral prisons where ░░░░░░░░ do not go any ░░░░░░░░ to the gender prison ░░░░░░░░ the gender with which ░░░░░░░░ identify it s tough ░░░░░░░░ as it is and ░░░░░░░░ we have to make ░░░░░░░░ that we put back ░░░░░░░░ those prohibitions that HUD ░░░░░░░░ had that you could ░░░░░░░░ discriminate in our homeless ░░░░░░░░ against those of the ░░░░░░░░ community when one out ░░░░░░░░ five one out of ░░░░░░░░ needs are at risk ░░░░░░░░ needing homeless shelter to ░░░░░░░░ if they can get ░░░░░░░░ the same gender homeless ░░░░░░░░ as they identify with ░░░░░░░░ and then what we ░░░░░░░░ to do is remove ░░░░░░░░ all right Admiral Abel ░░░░░░░░ as I said actually ░░░░░░░░ would permit us once ░░░░░░░░ to have overseas ambassadors ░░░░░░░░ Jim Hormel the first ░░░░░░░░ Ambassador in America 1999 ░░░░░░░░ have to reinstitute that ░░░░░░░░ of ideals to the ░░░░░░░░ with our warriors of ░░░░░░░░ our diplomats our ambassadors ░░░░░░░░ a fair share of ░░░░░░░░ LBGT community thank you ░░░░░░░░ right more than half ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ individuals nationwide live ░░░░░░░░ states that do not ░░░░░░░░ protect them from discrimination ░░░░░░░░ housing employment public accommodations ░░░░░░░░ much much more this ░░░░░░░░ the House of Representatives ░░░░░░░░ the Equality Act a ░░░░░░░░ that would amend that ░░░░░░░░ Civil Rights Act to ░░░░░░░░ federal non discrimination protections ░░░░░░░░ the LGBTQ community the ░░░░░░░░ is now stalled in ░░░░░░░░ Senate obviously as president ░░░░░░░░ would you do to ░░░░░░░░ the Equality Act and ░░░░░░░░ that all LGBTQ people ░░░░░░░░ the United States are ░░░░░░░░ against that kind of ░░░░░░░░ I believe that what ░░░░░░░░ really need is a ░░░░░░░░ that can once again ░░░░░░░░ I did in my ░░░░░░░░ two to one Republican ░░░░░░░░ where I was reelected ░░░░░░░░ an effort from the ░░░░░░░░ 100 percent from the ░░░░░░░░ 100 percent from now ░░░░░░░░ 95 percent from Human ░░░░░░░░ Campaign they ve got ░░░░░░░░ really by 20 points ░░░░░░░░ spending a penny on ░░░░░░░░ camp on a campaign ░░░░░░░░ we learned where to ░░░░░░░░ but where when we ░░░░░░░░ well they still respected ░░░░░░░░ and that s what ░░░░░░░░ have to do as ░░░░░░░░ president this time not ░░░░░░░░ beat Mr Trump to ░░░░░░░░ someone who can go ░░░░░░░░ the heads right to ░░░░░░░░ people to have town ░░░░░░░░ we are open where ░░░░░░░░ can actually show how ░░░░░░░░ helped the military when ░░░░░░░░ had him in that ░░░░░░░░ why Jim mattis as ░░░░░░░░ of Defense was so ░░░░░░░░ to try to slow ░░░░░░░░ Mr Trump of not ░░░░░░░░ them be removed from ░░░░░░░░ military you know their ░░░░░░░░ and as well in ░░░░░░░░ 2017 obviously President Donald ░░░░░░░░ announced that very military ░░░░░░░░ that you just referenced ░░░░░░░░ s obvious that you ░░░░░░░░ to reverse the band ░░░░░░░░ aside from reversing that ░░░░░░░░ ban what else would ░░░░░░░░ do to ensure that ░░░░░░░░ individuals can serve in ░░░░░░░░ military without fear of ░░░░░░░░ he s brought up ░░░░░░░░ great point because too ░░░░░░░░ we pass things and ░░░░░░░░ we tend to forget ░░░░░░░░ you learn in the ░░░░░░░░ expect what you inspect ░░░░░░░░ so you need to ░░░░░░░░ sure that once you ░░░░░░░░ repeal a ban or ░░░░░░░░ you do pass the ░░░░░░░░ Act that you actually ░░░░░░░░ example take the Civil ░░░░░░░░ Division in the Justice ░░░░░░░░ and make sure they ░░░░░░░░ don t wait for ░░░░░░░░ to come up that ░░░░░░░░ re out there making ░░░░░░░░ that they re able ░░░░░░░░ see that they are ░░░░░░░░ in the military what ░░░░░░░░ need to do is ░░░░░░░░ have those types of ░░░░░░░░ reports that we do ░░░░░░░░ and maybe they happen ░░░░░░░░ example for how well ░░░░░░░░ we are doing fair ░░░░░░░░ for women on sexual ░░░░░░░░ and it s not ░░░░░░░░ good story but the ░░░░░░░░ is we do not ░░░░░░░░ those studies those surveys ░░░░░░░░ finding out that they ░░░░░░░░ increasing every year and ░░░░░░░░ hold the Admirals and ░░░░░░░░ to task that s ░░░░░░░░ you have to do ░░░░░░░░ understand you really must ░░░░░░░░ and when you have ░░░░░░░░ results go back and ░░░░░░░░ the military accountable when ░░░░░░░░ get after the ban ░░░░░░░░ you commit to outlawing ░░░░░░░░ gay and trans panic ░░░░░░░░ at the federal level ░░░░░░░░ appointing judges such a ░░░░░░░░ defense as unconstitutional absolutely ░░░░░░░░ s app I co ░░░░░░░░ when I was in ░░░░░░░░ mill in Congress the ░░░░░░░░ crime that is hate ░░░░░░░░ that excuse is not ░░░░░░░░ excuse look when I ░░░░░░░░ in Congress just for ░░░░░░░░ example of what must ░░░░░░░░ done you may have ░░░░░░░░ of a young man ░░░░░░░░ was in a bar ░░░░░░░░ I had done an ░░░░░░░░ with the LGBTQ community ░░░░░░░░ with them a gentleman ░░░░░░░░ up and gave me ░░░░░░░░ portfolio about two ░░░░░░░░ working dog compound in ░░░░░░░░ where the sailors thought ░░░░░░░░ was gay so they ░░░░░░░░ him in the cage ░░░░░░░░ put feces all over ░░░░░░░░ and worse so I ░░░░░░░░ that when I read ░░░░░░░░ happened two years earlier ░░░░░░░░ gave it to the ░░░░░░░░ of Naval Operations and ░░░░░░░░ went after the individual ░░░░░░░░ right on top but ░░░░░░░░ didn t stop there ░░░░░░░░ they came back and ░░░░░░░░ they had held him ░░░░░░░░ I said how about ░░░░░░░░ generals on the Admiral ░░░░░░░░ had reviewed that and ░░░░░░░░ nothing the Secretary of ░░░░░░░░ Navy then took it ░░░░░░░░ action I was out ░░░░░░░░ Congress before the results ░░░░░░░░ back but he talked ░░░░░░░░ me and said that ░░░░░░░░ would pursue it he ░░░░░░░░ retired and go after ░░░░░░░░ not for the word ░░░░░░░░ for the deed is ░░░░░░░░ is most important and ░░░░░░░░ s the shame when ░░░░░░░░ passes something and someone ░░░░░░░░ an excuse with a ░░░░░░░░ he should be or ░░░░░░░░ should be held accountable legalization ░░░░░░░░ same sex marriage but ░░░░░░░░ me tell you something ░░░░░░░░ took no courage at ░░░░░░░░ it came down to ░░░░░░░░ simple proposition many of ░░░░░░░░ many of you the ░░░░░░░░ I was at Stonewall ░░░░░░░░ who had the courage ░░░░░░░░ risk not only their ░░░░░░░░ and their futures but ░░░░░░░░ many cases their physical ░░░░░░░░ and safety that s ░░░░░░░░ the people we owe ░░░░░░░░ gigantic debt of thanks ░░░░░░░░ Applause I guess I ░░░░░░░░ t do an opening ░░░░░░░░ I go sit down ░░░░░░░░ mean if you re ░░░░░░░░ we re ready for ░░░░░░░░ questions yes I m ░░░░░░░░ I thought you d ░░░░░░░░ a little longer so ░░░░░░░░ right yeah it was ░░░░░░░░ to be three minutes ░░░░░░░░ that s okay you ░░░░░░░░ the press yeah you ░░░░░░░░ good press keep it ░░░░░░░░ all right well I ░░░░░░░░ to ask you um ░░░░░░░░ in 1994 you supported ░░░░░░░░ that increased incarceration rates ░░░░░░░░ promoted more aggressive policing ░░░░░░░░ and tactics and laws ░░░░░░░░ this disproportionately affect LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ of color so I ░░░░░░░░ to know how do ░░░░░░░░ assure the American public ░░░░░░░░ you won t once ░░░░░░░░ support increased incarceration and ░░░░░░░░ president will you support ░░░░░░░░ prohibiting enforcement from target ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ people yes I ░░░░░░░░ get something straight you ░░░░░░░░ wrong about the Act ░░░░░░░░ was overwhelmingly supported by ░░░░░░░░ African American community overwhelmingly ░░░░░░░░ by the community at ░░░░░░░░ everyone from Ted Kennedy ░░░░░░░░ voted for it it ░░░░░░░░ not have mandatories in ░░░░░░░░ that s not what ░░░░░░░░ was about but the ░░░░░░░░ of the matter is ░░░░░░░░ people are more likely ░░░░░░░░ be arrested in large ░░░░░░░░ because they find themselves ░░░░░░░░ circumstances where they re ░░░░░░░░ the street because they ░░░░░░░░ thrown out of their ░░░░░░░░ they don t have ░░░░░░░░ to housing they don ░░░░░░░░ have access to all ░░░░░░░░ benefits that everyone else ░░░░░░░░ and they find themselves ░░░░░░░░ victims victimized by what ░░░░░░░░ what is happening when ░░░░░░░░ re alone on the ░░░░░░░░ so many of them ░░░░░░░░ so yes and by ░░░░░░░░ way in prison in ░░░░░░░░ the determination should be ░░░░░░░░ your Sexual identity is ░░░░░░░░ by what you say ░░░░░░░░ is not what in ░░░░░░░░ the prison says it ░░░░░░░░ and in that case ░░░░░░░░ should be entitled also ░░░░░░░░ OGB why in any ░░░░░░░░ you didn t a ░░░░░░░░ s which is not ░░░░░░░░ to either I guess ░░░░░░░░ will say the increased ░░░░░░░░ rates thing was a ░░░░░░░░ checked I believe on ░░░░░░░░ so it has it ░░░░░░░░ increase in cursory no ░░░░░░░░ did it go ahead ░░░░░░░░ right it was not ░░░░░░░░ a crime pill what ░░░░░░░░ in a crime bill ░░░░░░░░ more money for for ░░░░░░░░ prison building which I ░░░░░░░░ reason I voted for ░░░░░░░░ whole bill at the ░░░░░░░░ Against Women Act is ░░░░░░░░ s band in the ░░░░░░░░ range of other good ░░░░░░░░ well let s talk ░░░░░░░░ other legislation because ░░░░░░░░ Mike Pence as a ░░░░░░░░ guy a lovely person ░░░░░░░░ just asking the questions ░░░░░░░░ people want to know ░░░░░░░░ I guess it goes ░░░░░░░░ saying Pence s opposed ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ rights so the ░░░░░░░░ that arises from these ░░░░░░░░ how can LGBTQ people ░░░░░░░░ that you won t ░░░░░░░░ on issues that put ░░░░░░░░ at risk in order ░░░░░░░░ reach across the aisle ░░░░░░░░ people like parents because ░░░░░░░░ fact of the matter ░░░░░░░░ you might recall I ░░░░░░░░ the first person nationally ░░░░░░░░ come out and say ░░░░░░░░ front of everyone I ░░░░░░░░ t have to go ░░░░░░░░ any greatest Patriots we know ░░░░░░░░ who were willing to ░░░░░░░░ their lives on the ░░░░░░░░ for their fellow Americans ░░░░░░░░ particularly the military when ░░░░░░░░ became mayor of the ░░░░░░░░ of Newark New Jersey ░░░░░░░░ largest city the first ░░░░░░░░ I raised was the ░░░░░░░░ flag the second flag ░░░░░░░░ raised for the first ░░░░░░░░ in the history of ░░░░░░░░ city in front of ░░░░░░░░ was the pride flag ░░░░░░░░ this was this was ░░░░░░░░ before a lot of ░░░░░░░░ national leaders had evolved ░░░░░░░░ came right out and ░░░░░░░░ I may be a ░░░░░░░░ and have the ability ░░░░░░░░ homelessness disproportionately represented in ░░░░░░░░ population I searched the ░░░░░░░░ for models that we ░░░░░░░░ bring to our city ░░░░░░░░ found the Hetrick Martin ░░░░░░░░ in the Harvey Milk ░░░░░░░░ in New York and ░░░░░░░░ them national brought them ░░░░░░░░ the Hudson River and ░░░░░░░░ a advocating and working ░░░░░░░░ create safe spaces for ░░░░░░░░ youth this is been ░░░░░░░░ urgent part of my ░░░░░░░░ for my entire career ░░░░░░░░ what King said is ░░░░░░░░ true that we are ░░░░░░░░ caught in an inescapable ░░░░░░░░ of mutuality tied in ░░░░░░░░ common garment of destiny ░░░░░░░░ anywhere is a threat ░░░░░░░░ justice everywhere and so ░░░░░░░░ your president as your ░░░░░░░░ a life long Ally ░░░░░░░░ these issues we must ░░░░░░░░ a comprehensive agenda starting ░░░░░░░░ day one it s ░░░░░░░░ sure that the team ░░░░░░░░ surround myself is diverse ░░░░░░░░ representative it includes an ░░░░░░░░ general who will fight ░░░░░░░░ protect the rights and ░░░░░░░░ of LGBTQ Americans it ░░░░░░░░ a Secretary of Education ░░░░░░░░ actually was in public ░░░░░░░░ and will stand up ░░░░░░░░ protect every single one ░░░░░░░░ our children it means ░░░░░░░░ sure that we not ░░░░░░░░ remove this despicable ban ░░░░░░░░ transgender Americans serving in ░░░░░░░░ military but we make ░░░░░░░░ that via care that ░░░░░░░░ make sure veterans benefits ░░░░░░░░ so many other aspects ░░░░░░░░ the military that still ░░░░░░░░ are done and on ░░░░░░░░ it means as my ░░░░░░░░ stands here I know ░░░░░░░░ means my time is ░░░░░░░░ I made you re ░░░░░░░░ here preaching but but there ░░░░░░░░ 14 fatalities so we ░░░░░░░░ that punishing we also ░░░░░░░░ through all of this ░░░░░░░░ that punishing people who ░░░░░░░░ hate crimes is not ░░░░░░░░ them from perpetuating them ░░░░░░░░ re seeing more and ░░░░░░░░ people prosecuted prosecuted but ░░░░░░░░ and more people dying ░░░░░░░░ have been an advocate ░░░░░░░░ stricter hate crime laws ░░░░░░░░ re pushing a lynching ░░░░░░░░ through the Senate but ░░░░░░░░ want to hear more ░░░░░░░░ about what can you ░░░░░░░░ as president to prevent ░░░░░░░░ women of color dying ░░░░░░░░ this huge rate because ░░░░░░░░ throwing someone in in ░░░░░░░░ after they are dead ░░░░░░░░ not enough because they ░░░░░░░░ still dead so understand ░░░░░░░░ the crisis we see ░░░░░░░░ our country gelila Jamar ░░░░░░░░ the 18th transgender black ░░░░░░░░ woman that has been ░░░░░░░░ this year alone and ░░░░░░░░ is not an anomaly ░░░░░░░░ year we have seen ░░░░░░░░ same levels of violence ░░░░░░░░ the previous years now ░░░░░░░░ I I take ░░░░░░░░ mm hmm you you ░░░░░░░░ t pass legislation to ░░░░░░░░ the heartless but to ░░░░░░░░ someone s heart but ░░░░░░░░ could pass legislation to ░░░░░░░░ the heartless and so ░░░░░░░░ have to start right ░░░░░░░░ we have to start ░░░░░░░░ the protections that are ░░░░░░░░ in place in this ░░░░░░░░ that prevent violence and ░░░░░░░░ and that s everything ░░░░░░░░ things I ve heard ░░░░░░░░ about already tonight from ░░░░░░░░ Equality Act all the ░░░░░░░░ to having two critical ░░░░░░░░ in my cabinet a ░░░░░░░░ of Education and a ░░░░░░░░ general that will that ░░░░░░░░ be focused on this ░░░░░░░░ but it goes even ░░░░░░░░ than that we have ░░░░░░░░ problem with violence coming ░░░░░░░░ police themselves and we ░░░░░░░░ this we may be ░░░░░░░░ from Stonewall but I ░░░░░░░░ this with my own ░░░░░░░░ Department that they weren ░░░░░░░░ having the training that ░░░░░░░░ needed to make sure ░░░░░░░░ they are not discriminating ░░░░░░░░ it s implicit racial ░░░░░░░░ transphobia we have to ░░░░░░░░ sure from the Justice ░░░░░░░░ that all law enforcement ░░░░░░░░ seen as a safe ░░░░░░░░ to go in addition ░░░░░░░░ that we must begin ░░░░░░░░ deal with the issues ░░░░░░░░ youth because the bullying ░░░░░░░░ the discrimination 30 percent ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ youth 30 percent ░░░░░░░░ now report not going ░░░░░░░░ school missing a day ░░░░░░░░ school in the last ░░░░░░░░ because of fear and ░░░░░░░░ the final thing I ░░░░░░░░ say that this question ░░░░░░░░ it s not only ░░░░░░░░ legislative things that we ░░░░░░░░ do it s not ░░░░░░░░ the things I can ░░░░░░░░ by building a cabinet ░░░░░░░░ will be focused on ░░░░░░░░ issues but it s ░░░░░░░░ time that we have ░░░░░░░░ president on these issues ░░░░░░░░ everyday is using their ░░░░░░░░ to inspire and ignite ░░░░░░░░ compassion a more courageous ░░░░░░░░ a revival of civic ░░░░░░░░ so that we see ░░░░░░░░ for the equal dignity ░░░░░░░░ equal citizenship that we ░░░░░░░░ have okay I m ░░░░░░░░ myself cuz it s ░░░░░░░░ because it s actually ░░░░░░░░ all right so one ░░░░░░░░ question before we let ░░░░░░░░ go in 2014 Iowa ░░░░░░░░ the first state to ░░░░░░░░ its law on transmission ░░░░░░░░ communicable diseases getting rid ░░░░░░░░ an outdated policy that ░░░░░░░░ criminalizes non disclosure of ░░░░░░░░ individual s HIV status ░░░░░░░░ many states still have ░░░░░░░░ laws on the books ░░░░░░░░ could lead to the ░░░░░░░░ prison sentences for those ░░░░░░░░ of non disclosure these ░░░░░░░░ have no scientific basis ░░░░░░░░ skirts testing and disproportionately ░░░░░░░░ LGBT people of color ░░░░░░░░ group that you ve ░░░░░░░░ a lot about today ░░░░░░░░ president how would you ░░░░░░░░ this on the national ░░░░░░░░ to your policies and ░░░░░░░░ around HIV and AIDS ░░░░░░░░ would you be willing ░░░░░░░░ get rid of this ░░░░░░░░ with along yes absolutely ░░░░░░░░ so number one we ░░░░░░░░ to do things to ░░░░░░░░ discrimination but we still ░░░░░░░░ a lot of work ░░░░░░░░ do with the over ░░░░░░░░ people in America with ░░░░░░░░ and AIDS or AIDS ░░░░░░░░ this is the urgency ░░░░░░░░ I felt when I ░░░░░░░░ mayor because this two ░░░░░░░░ disproportionally is affecting poor ░░░░░░░░ some of the largest ░░░░░░░░ groups are people of ░░░░░░░░ and so as the ░░░░░░░░ person in this campaign ░░░░░░░░ the Senate that lives ░░░░░░░░ a black and brown ░░░░░░░░ below the poverty line ░░░░░░░░ know that we can ░░░░░░░░ things to deal with ░░░░░░░░ issue and that means ░░░░░░░░ increasing Ryan White funding ░░░░░░░░ increasing funding for housing ░░░░░░░░ people with HIV and ░░░░░░░░ it means making sure ░░░░░░░░ we cover through health ░░░░░░░░ prep and things that ░░░░░░░░ begin to combat this ░░░░░░░░ it means that we ░░░░░░░░ it means that we ░░░░░░░░ a more open conversation ░░░░░░░░ the urgency of being ░░░░░░░░ it means that in ░░░░░░░░ schools we actually have ░░░░░░░░ based sexual education it ░░░░░░░░ about the transmission of ░░░░░░░░ s you are gonna ░░░░░░░░ me off I am ░░░░░░░░ I I just want ░░░░░░░░ say this my campaign ░░░░░░░░ based on the understanding ░░░░░░░░ patriotism is love of ░░░░░░░░ and you cannot love ░░░░░░░░ country unless you love ░░░░░░░░ of your country men ░░░░░░░░ women and love love ░░░░░░░░ not a sentiment it ░░░░░░░░ not sentimentality as one ░░░░░░░░ my great friends says ░░░░░░░░ does love look like ░░░░░░░░ public it looks like ░░░░░░░░ and we need to ░░░░░░░░ that we cannot elevate ░░░░░░░░ to positions of leadership ░░░░░░░░ are not grounded in ░░░░░░░░ ideal of love because ░░░░░░░░ cannot leave the people ░░░░░░░░ you in looking for housing ░░░░░░░░ in schools in their ░░░░░░░░ life so we have ░░░░░░░░ work cut out for ░░░░░░░░ and as president I ░░░░░░░░ continue this fight for ░░░░░░░░ for every single American ░░░░░░░░ are some issues that ░░░░░░░░ want to cover because ░░░░░░░░ challenges we face are ░░░░░░░░ rising costs of health ░░░░░░░░ income inequality lack of ░░░░░░░░ housing lack of access ░░░░░░░░ education there are many ░░░░░░░░ we face but there ░░░░░░░░ one issue that is ░░░░░░░░ to all the rests ░░░░░░░░ our ability to serve ░░░░░░░░ of these needs and ░░░░░░░░ issue is the cost ░░░░░░░░ war I want to ░░░░░░░░ about this because not ░░░░░░░░ many people do but ░░░░░░░░ is central to our ░░░░░░░░ to deliver and serve ░░░░░░░░ needs of the American ░░░░░░░░ the cost of war ░░░░░░░░ 9 11 alone we ░░░░░░░░ had over six trillion ░░░░░░░░ taken out of our ░░░░░░░░ out of our schools ░░░░░░░░ of our health care ░░░░░░░░ out of our communities ░░░░░░░░ go and pay for ░░░░░░░░ regime change wars in ░░░░░░░░ countries that have cost ░░░░░░░░ thousands of American lives ░░░░░░░░ have cost us tremendously ░░░░░░░░ our communities that have ░░░░░░░░ the threat to our ░░░░░░░░ security and people right here at ░░░░░░░░ thank you all right ░░░░░░░░ year the Iowa Legislature ░░░░░░░░ four other states passed ░░░░░░░░ that repeals non discrimination ░░░░░░░░ for student groups on ░░░░░░░░ college campuses our particular ░░░░░░░░ in Iowa was pushed ░░░░░░░░ the line from a ░░░░░░░░ brought by a group ░░░░░░░░ as business leaders in ░░░░░░░░ who wanted to exclude ░░░░░░░░ student from a leadership ░░░░░░░░ simply because he was ░░░░░░░░ these pieces of legislation ░░░░░░░░ officially recognized student groups ░░░░░░░░ engage in discriminatory practices ░░░░░░░░ selecting their leadership such ░░░░░░░░ this excluding women LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ and people with disabilities ░░░░░░░░ still receiving access to ░░░░░░░░ funds as president what ░░░░░░░░ you do to address ░░░░░░░░ policies and ensure all ░░░░░░░░ can be leaders in ░░░░░░░░ organizations that they care ░░░░░░░░ thank you you know ░░░░░░░░ is actually a question ░░░░░░░░ s been raised that ░░░░░░░░ few of our town ░░░░░░░░ especially by students in ░░░░░░░░ who are really concerned ░░░░░░░░ this and were directly ░░░░░░░░ by it I think ░░░░░░░░ comes ultimately down to ░░░░░░░░ and the culture of ░░░░░░░░ that we have in ░░░░░░░░ country I m running ░░░░░░░░ president to be a ░░░░░░░░ that unifies our country ░░░░░░░░ that recognizes that we ░░░░░░░░ stand together as an ░░░░░░░░ that we cannot allow ░░░░░░░░ type of discrimination to ░░░░░░░░ especially in our educational ░░░░░░░░ but anywhere in this ░░░░░░░░ that people are set ░░░░░░░░ or other eyes and ░░░░░░░░ that they are not ░░░░░░░░ can t be included ░░░░░░░░ it comes down to ░░░░░░░░ as president to set ░░░░░░░░ tone of leadership and ░░░░░░░░ this is why elections ░░░░░░░░ as we see how ░░░░░░░░ the local level at ░░░░░░░░ state level and the ░░░░░░░░ level our engagement and ░░░░░░░░ in our democracy in ░░░░░░░░ up for one another ░░░░░░░░ fighting for one another ░░░░░░░░ to be able to ░░░░░░░░ these kinds of discriminatory ░░░░░░░░ from being put in ░░░░░░░░ President Trump has followed ░░░░░░░░ President Obama s footsteps ░░░░░░░░ calling for the decriminalization ░░░░░░░░ being LGBTQ across the ░░░░░░░░ however it is worth ░░░░░░░░ this global campaign was ░░░░░░░░ at a time when ░░░░░░░░ president was looking to ░░░░░░░░ the issue as a ░░░░░░░░ between other foreign nations ░░░░░░░░ in Trump s silence ░░░░░░░░ anti LGBTQ efforts in ░░░░░░░░ like Chechnya do you ░░░░░░░░ the president is actually ░░░░░░░░ this global effort a ░░░░░░░░ or is he using ░░░░░░░░ people when it only ░░░░░░░░ him my reaction exactly ░░░░░░░░ I think this president ░░░░░░░░ has been known for ░░░░░░░░ to be known for ░░░░░░░░ to divide us as ░░░░░░░░ country for trying to ░░░░░░░░ us apart as Americans ░░░░░░░░ trying to use things ░░░░░░░░ sexual orientation and gender ░░░░░░░░ religion ethnicity as wedges ░░░░░░░░ Pit one group of ░░░░░░░░ against the other why ░░░░░░░░ he do these things ░░░░░░░░ doesn t for his ░░░░░░░░ political gain this is ░░░░░░░░ the opposite of the ░░░░░░░░ that we stand for ░░░░░░░░ this country the values ░░░░░░░░ we represent these values ░░░░░░░░ love of country love ░░░░░░░░ each other and freedom ░░░░░░░░ equality for all people ░░░░░░░░ these are the kinds ░░░░░░░░ values that I ll ░░░░░░░░ to the White House ░░░░░░░░ values of Service Above ░░░░░░░░ the values that that ░░░░░░░░ find at the heart ░░░░░░░░ every service member restoring ░░░░░░░░ principles of integrity and ░░░░░░░░ and respect to the ░░░░░░░░ not only in our ░░░░░░░░ policies here but in ░░░░░░░░ example that we set ░░░░░░░░ the world this is ░░░░░░░░ kind of leadership that ░░░░░░░░ need a leadership that ░░░░░░░░ this positive message forward ░░░░░░░░ we can actually be ░░░░░░░░ positive right away ░░░░░░░░ rid of the band ░░░░░░░░ transgender men and women ░░░░░░░░ in our military appointing ░░░░░░░░ president a vice president ░░░░░░░░ the United States who ░░░░░░░░ and recognizes the dignity ░░░░░░░░ the and the service ░░░░░░░░ the importance of our ░░░░░░░░ community as opposed to ░░░░░░░░ we ve currently got ░░░░░░░░ that guy who has ░░░░░░░░ full time vilifying and ░░░░░░░░ hate and misinformation I ░░░░░░░░ pass my prep act ░░░░░░░░ is about making sure ░░░░░░░░ cost is not the ░░░░░░░░ I will promise you ░░░░░░░░ within a generation we ░░░░░░░░ n HIV AIDS and ░░░░░░░░ all of the work ░░░░░░░░ we need to do ░░░░░░░░ terms of passing the ░░░░░░░░ Act what we need ░░░░░░░░ do to protect our ░░░░░░░░ who I have worked ░░░░░░░░ for years who are ░░░░░░░░ places career I have ░░░░░░░░ a proud Ally on ░░░░░░░░ of these issues and ░░░░░░░░ know back when some ░░░░░░░░ were talking about civil ░░░░░░░░ I was performing marriages ░░░░░░░░ 2004 at San Francisco ░░░░░░░░ Hall that great Valentine ░░░░░░░░ weekend and I you ░░░░░░░░ my commitment based on ░░░░░░░░ long standing support that ░░░░░░░░ will be always loud ░░░░░░░░ and strong as an ░░░░░░░░ as we continue with ░░░░░░░░ movement so and I ░░░░░░░░ the clock ticking so ░░░░░░░░ bring back morality all ░░░░░░░░ so during your time ░░░░░░░░ Attorney general in California ░░░░░░░░ did send a brief ░░░░░░░░ to deny gender affirmation ░░░░░░░░ for trans and maids ░░░░░░░░ stated that at the ░░░░░░░░ you were just enforcing ░░░░░░░░ existing law but with ░░░░░░░░ history the question is ░░░░░░░░ can trans people trust ░░░░░░░░ will advocate for them ░░░░░░░░ not just enforce discriminatory ░░░░░░░░ right so as many ░░░░░░░░ you know I along ░░░░░░░░ receive support from the ░░░░░░░░ I think almost every ░░░░░░░░ organization in California that ░░░░░░░░ been the fighters and ░░░░░░░░ for LGBTQ rights and ░░░░░░░░ that case came up ░░░░░░░░ was because as Attorney ░░░░░░░░ I had clients and ░░░░░░░░ of them was the ░░░░░░░░ Department of Corrections and ░░░░░░░░ was their policy when ░░░░░░░░ learned about what they ░░░░░░░░ doing behind the scenes ░░░░░░░░ got them to change ░░░░░░░░ policy and I commit ░░░░░░░░ you that always in ░░░░░░░░ systems there are going ░░░░░░░░ be these things that ░░░░░░░░ these agencies do and ░░░░░░░░ will commit myself always ░░░░░░░░ I always have to ░░░░░░░░ with it and you ░░░░░░░░ t even have you ░░░░░░░░ go back before that ░░░░░░░░ I was District Attorney ░░░░░░░░ San Francisco um there ░░░░░░░░ a case that had ░░░░░░░░ about a year before ░░░░░░░░ case of Gwen Nora ░░░░░░░░ that some of you ░░░░░░░░ know about and it ░░░░░░░░ a tragic killing and ░░░░░░░░ s about the crimes ░░░░░░░░ continue to happen against ░░░░░░░░ transgender brothers and sisters ░░░░░░░░ there was this and ░░░░░░░░ what was happening which ░░░░░░░░ still happening are these ░░░░░░░░ around the country and ░░░░░░░░ the the person who ░░░░░░░░ the killing would argue ░░░░░░░░ they got to court ░░░░░░░░ being charged they would ░░░░░░░░ this bogus thing called ░░░░░░░░ gay panic defense so ░░░░░░░░ District Attorney I convened ░░░░░░░░ the first time in ░░░░░░░░ nation s history prosecutors ░░░░░░░░ around the country to ░░░░░░░░ to San Francisco where ░░░░░░░░ taught them on how ░░░░░░░░ needed to defeat the ░░░░░░░░ panic defense I ve ░░░░░░░░ doing this work for ░░░░░░░░ long time when I ░░░░░░░░ District Attorney I created ░░░░░░░░ special division of my ░░░░░░░░ that was focused on ░░░░░░░░ victims of crime and ░░░░░░░░ particular did a lot ░░░░░░░░ outreach around our LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ of rape because the ░░░░░░░░ was not giving people ░░░░░░░░ place to go that ░░░░░░░░ safe that was giving ░░░░░░░░ dignity if they shared ░░░░░░░░ told about the crimes ░░░░░░░░ committed against them and ░░░░░░░░ can go on and ░░░░░░░░ Wow do you have ░░░░░░░░ more questions ok great ░░░░░░░░ ok so this one ░░░░░░░░ about our Supreme Court ░░░░░░░░ in 2009 Iowa was ░░░░░░░░ third state in The ░░░░░░░░ to legalize same sex ░░░░░░░░ but we had to ░░░░░░░░ that with the courts ░░░░░░░░ it was the same ░░░░░░░░ our nation it had ░░░░░░░░ happen with the court ░░░░░░░░ the justices who voted ░░░░░░░░ marriage equality here in ░░░░░░░░ were then voted out ░░░░░░░░ ve received backlash and ░░░░░░░░ can see a backlash ░░░░░░░░ in our judicial system ░░░░░░░░ now with the Trump ░░░░░░░░ stalking you know the ░░░░░░░░ with very conservative justices ░░░░░░░░ the question here is ░░░░░░░░ are you gonna do ░░░░░░░░ mean what are you ░░░░░░░░ do to ensure the ░░░░░░░░ of this judiciary and ░░░░░░░░ rights and freedoms for ░░░░░░░░ Americans yeah so again ░░░░░░░░ at my history when ░░░░░░░░ ran for Attorney general ░░░░░░░░ that election was in ░░░░░░░░ so almost a decade ░░░░░░░░ and one of the ░░░░░░░░ issues between me and ░░░░░░░░ opponent was that I ░░░░░░░░ very clear that I ░░░░░░░░ refuse to defend Prop ░░░░░░░░ and but but I ░░░░░░░░ want to give you ░░░░░░░░ sense of the environment ░░░░░░░░ people have you know ░░░░░░░░ think oh California is ░░░░░░░░ progressive place right well ░░░░░░░░ California voters voted for ░░░░░░░░ 8 1 shames of ░░░░░░░░ my state is and ░░░░░░░░ that election for Attorney ░░░░░░░░ my opponent campaigned on ░░░░░░░░ promise to uphold Prop ░░░░░░░░ on election night my ░░░░░░░░ declared his victory that ░░░░░░░░ how close the issue ░░░░░░░░ and I share that ░░░░░░░░ you to tell you ░░░░░░░░ wasn t necessarily a ░░░░░░░░ position when I took ░░░░░░░░ position I did but ░░░░░░░░ took that position because ░░░░░░░░ am committed to fighting ░░░░░░░░ for equality and for ░░░░░░░░ and against laws that ░░░░░░░░ gonna be are designed ░░░░░░░░ to deny any individual ░░░░░░░░ and so then I ░░░░░░░░ elected as it turned ░░░░░░░░ and and and refused ░░░░░░░░ defend Prop 8 and ░░░░░░░░ am proud that after ░░░░░░░░ were successful in taking ░░░░░░░░ to the highest court ░░░░░░░░ the land where they ░░░░░░░░ my decision and said ░░░░░░░░ didn t have standing ░░░░░░░░ refuse to defend it ░░░░░░░░ won and immediately thereafter ░░░░░░░░ was asked to perform ░░░░░░░░ first marriage after the ░░░░░░░░ of Prop 8 of ░░░░░░░░ Stier and and and ░░░░░░░░ do the work of ░░░░░░░░ performing that marriage that ░░░░░░░░ about saying and I ░░░░░░░░ very clearly and everybody ░░░░░░░░ the wedding bells ring ░░░░░░░░ so I won t ░░░░░░░░ be committed to putting ░░░░░░░░ place justices you you ░░░░░░░░ talking a lot about ░░░░░░░░ you done but what ░░░░░░░░ you gonna do I ░░░░░░░░ what I ve done ░░░░░░░░ that s fair that ░░░░░░░░ fair but I tell ░░░░░░░░ that because there are ░░░░░░░░ lot of new friends ░░░░░░░░ who you do not ░░░░░░░░ me and so I ░░░░░░░░ to put in context ░░░░░░░░ words I m speaking ░░░░░░░░ what I will do ░░░░░░░░ let you know I ░░░░░░░░ not new to this ░░░░░░░░ and I tend to ░░░░░░░░ through on the commitment ░░░░░░░░ have long held not ░░░░░░░░ because I m running ░░░░░░░░ president all right and ░░░░░░░░ it will be about ░░░░░░░░ in position in our ░░░░░░░░ people who are committed ░░░░░░░░ fighting for the civil ░░░░░░░░ of all people and ░░░░░░░░ the kind of folks ░░░░░░░░ frankly this this guy ░░░░░░░░ the White House has ░░░░░░░░ put in yeah well ░░░░░░░░ have a final question ░░░░░░░░ I ll make it ░░░░░░░░ short it comes from ░░░░░░░░ mcdorman from Galesburg Illinois ░░░░░░░░ is the mother of ░░░░░░░░ trans kid and she ░░░░░░░░ to know about correct ░░░░░░░░ markers including for non ░░░░░░░░ people she wants to ░░░░░░░░ what you re going ░░░░░░░░ do to ensure that ░░░░░░░░ cue people can have ░░░░░░░░ correct gender markers on ░░░░░░░░ identification forms and how ░░░░░░░░ you going to make ░░░░░░░░ that they re recognized ░░░░░░░░ in all states and ░░░░░░░░ force individuals to require ░░░░░░░░ of gender transition no ░░░░░░░░ s just I was ░░░░░░░░ pointing to the time ░░░░░░░░ video okay got it ░░░░░░░░ m there and I ░░░░░░░░ been there in terms ░░░░░░░░ what we need to ░░░░░░░░ in terms of IDs ░░░░░░░░ and how we re ░░░░░░░░ enforce it it has ░░░░░░░░ be about having a ░░░░░░░░ United States who also ░░░░░░░░ that in her administration ░░░░░░░░ must be people in ░░░░░░░░ position in the cabinet ░░░░░░░░ are understanding of the ░░░░░░░░ of these civil rights ░░░░░░░░ equal rights and that ░░░░░░░░ from the people we ░░░░░░░░ going to be the ░░░░░░░░ of Health and Human ░░░░░░░░ to who s gonna ░░░░░░░░ the Attorney general of ░░░░░░░░ United States who has ░░░░░░░░ responsibility for enforcing the ░░░░░░░░ including what we will ░░░░░░░░ which is the Equality ░░░░░░░░ to ensure that our ░░░░░░░░ youth and our transgender ░░░░░░░░ and women and and ░░░░░░░░ every gender are protected ░░░░░░░░ the law and given ░░░░░░░░ recognition under the law ░░░░░░░░ a way that provides ░░░░░░░░ for all people but ░░░░░░░░ truly for me this ░░░░░░░░ not just about one ░░░░░░░░ of an administration because ░░░░░░░░ you think about it ░░░░░░░░ relates also to who ░░░░░░░░ gonna be the secretary ░░░░░░░░ Labor part of the ░░░░░░░░ Act is that we ░░░░░░░░ we still don t ░░░░░░░░ laws in America that ░░░░░░░░ protect people in terms ░░░░░░░░ employment status so that ░░░░░░░░ to be about a ░░░░░░░░ of Labor the Department ░░░░░░░░ Education obviously Betsy DeVos ░░░░░░░░ to go but then ░░░░░░░░ but but it has ░░░░░░░░ be about also having ░░░░░░░░ Department of Education that ░░░░░░░░ safety and protection and ░░░░░░░░ sense of understanding about along with ░░░░░░░░ at home and here ░░░░░░░░ give us your questions ░░░░░░░░ we ll continue this ░░░░░░░░ going but up next ░░░░░░░░ have our next candidate ░░░░░░░░ you all may have ░░░░░░░░ of he s a ░░░░░░░░ excitable person because he ░░░░░░░░ a part of our ░░░░░░░░ and I would like ░░░░░░░░ introduce mayor Pete bootie ░░░░░░░░ Hey all right thank ░░░░░░░░ all right so Mr ░░░░░░░░ our first question for ░░░░░░░░ is what can these ░░░░░░░░ and people at home ░░░░░░░░ are LGBTQ expect from ░░░░░░░░ in your first hundred ░░░░░░░░ as president and I ░░░░░░░░ leave the station you ░░░░░░░░ give that conversation today ░░░░░░░░ you first of all ░░░░░░░░ for being here and ░░░░░░░░ for everyone for making ░░░░░░░░ conversation possible because it ░░░░░░░░ have been unimaginable as ░░░░░░░░ part of the presidential ░░░░░░░░ process just a few ░░░░░░░░ ago here s what ░░░░░░░░ can expect from me ░░░░░░░░ of all a president ░░░░░░░░ understands that all Politics ░░░░░░░░ personal not just local ░░░░░░░░ personal precisely because of ░░░░░░░░ experience as a member ░░░░░░░░ the LGBTQ community you ░░░░░░░░ this is the anniversary ░░░░░░░░ the repeal of Don ░░░░░░░░ Ask Don t Tell ░░░░░░░░ thanks to everybody who ░░░░░░░░ part of the activism ░░░░░░░░ helped make that happen ░░░░░░░░ remember serving under Don ░░░░░░░░ Ask Don t Tell ░░░░░░░░ I also remember the ░░░░░░░░ lifted when that was ░░░░░░░░ longer a threat to ░░░░░░░░ career and yet we ░░░░░░░░ that so many Americans ░░░░░░░░ still finding that they ░░░░░░░░ treated as less than ░░░░░░░░ trans military members right ░░░░░░░░ who were willing to ░░░░░░░░ their lives on the ░░░░░░░░ for this country so ░░░░░░░░ thing you can expect ░░░░░░░░ me on day one ░░░░░░░░ to end the war ░░░░░░░░ trans Americans coming from ░░░░░░░░ White House Applause you ░░░░░░░░ obviously expect me to ░░░░░░░░ the Equality Act the ░░░░░░░░ that it hits my ░░░░░░░░ you can also expect ░░░░░░░░ to appoint an administration ░░░░░░░░ a judiciary that understands ░░░░░░░░ American freedom means the ░░░░░░░░ to be who you ░░░░░░░░ and love who you ░░░░░░░░ you can expect housing ░░░░░░░░ that recognize that 40 ░░░░░░░░ of homeless youth right ░░░░░░░░ are LGBTQ and recognize ░░░░░░░░ need for equality and ░░░░░░░░ and let me tell ░░░░░░░░ if anybody let alone ░░░░░░░░ cabinet member in my ░░░░░░░░ spoke the way that ░░░░░░░░ Secretary of Housing and ░░░░░░░░ Development spoke yesterday about ░░░░░░░░ people that would be ░░░░░░░░ last day in federal ░░░░░░░░ on my watch Applause ░░░░░░░░ you can expect an ░░░░░░░░ to harmful practices like ░░░░░░░░ therapy and it s ░░░░░░░░ to take federal leadership ░░░░░░░░ make sure that that ░░░░░░░░ no longer practiced in ░░░░░░░░ around the country but ░░░░░░░░ s more than just ░░░░░░░░ policies there s a ░░░░░░░░ of belonging that we ░░░░░░░░ to establish in this ░░░░░░░░ because right now we ░░░░░░░░ from the President on ░░░░░░░░ voices telling just about ░░░░░░░░ for different reasons that ░░░░░░░░ don t fit because ░░░░░░░░ where you came from ░░░░░░░░ you look like how ░░░░░░░░ worship and yes very ░░░░░░░░ because of who you ░░░░░░░░ or who you are ░░░░░░░░ are being told they ░░░░░░░░ t belong that will ░░░░░░░░ when I am president ░░░░░░░░ we need to do ░░░░░░░░ exact reverse we got ░░░░░░░░ crisis of belonging in ░░░░░░░░ country and one of ░░░░░░░░ reasons I am so ░░░░░░░░ to be a member ░░░░░░░░ this community as I ░░░░░░░░ we have the power ░░░░░░░░ reach into our own ░░░░░░░░ belonging to a part ░░░░░░░░ America that also cuts ░░░░░░░░ all of the other ░░░░░░░░ categories I can only ░░░░░░░░ the only minority that ░░░░░░░░ in equal proportion across ░░░░░░░░ ethnicity family and income ░░░░░░░░ we could help be ░░░░░░░░ glue and I m ░░░░░░░░ the body language like ░░░░░░░░ I ve gone on ░░░░░░░░ long well go to ░░░░░░░░ that s why you ░░░░░░░░ expect more non president ░░░░░░░░ thank you for being ░░░░░░░░ we really appreciate it ░░░░░░░░ you know you spoke ░░░░░░░░ passionately about being a ░░░░░░░░ of the community and ░░░░░░░░ d love to start ░░░░░░░░ tonight so the FDA ░░░░░░░░ recently changed their ban ░░░░░░░░ blood blood donation on ░░░░░░░░ men or any man ░░░░░░░░ has sex with men ░░░░░░░░ a lifetime ban no ░░░░░░░░ one year ban if ░░░░░░░░ ve abstained from sex ░░░░░░░░ this would mean that ░░░░░░░░ would be if you ░░░░░░░░ president you d become ░░░░░░░░ first man in office ░░░░░░░░ not be able to ░░░░░░░░ blood while serving the ░░░░░░░░ that he s leading ░░░░░░░░ would like to know ░░░░░░░░ thoughts on this policy ░░░░░░░░ also more broadly how ░░░░░░░░ it feel as a ░░░░░░░░ man to be running ░░░░░░░░ an office in which ░░░░░░░░ if you became president ░░░░░░░░ would still not be ░░░░░░░░ anymore you know I ░░░░░░░░ the first time I ░░░░░░░░ that it was an ░░░░░░░░ on my schedule that ░░░░░░░░ could have a chance ░░░░░░░░ promote the traditional annual ░░░░░░░░ Bend mayor s office ░░░░░░░░ drive and it s ░░░░░░░░ great thing that we ░░░░░░░░ and then I realized ░░░░░░░░ can t I can ░░░░░░░░ be part of it ░░░░░░░░ still do it and ░░░░░░░░ s still a good ░░░░░░░░ but it s an ░░░░░░░░ one of many examples ░░░░░░░░ the exclusions that continue ░░░░░░░░ this country and it ░░░░░░░░ one of the reasons ░░░░░░░░ we need to move ░░░░░░░░ something that has actually ░░░░░░░░ by medically accurate non ░░░░░░░░ basis whether it s ░░░░░░░░ like the ban on ░░░░░░░░ or other things that ░░░░░░░░ to the treatment of ░░░░░░░░ positive people in America ░░░░░░░░ their opportunities to serve ░░░░░░░░ are still living with ░░░░░░░░ long tail of prejudices ░░░░░░░░ should have been abandoned ░░░░░░░░ long time ago and ░░░░░░░░ this current environment there ░░░░░░░░ a level of hostility ░░░░░░░░ science and fact but ░░░░░░░░ need to make sure ░░░░░░░░ we embrace reality especially ░░░░░░░░ our refusal to do ░░░░░░░░ has harmed people because ░░░░░░░░ who they are so ░░░░░░░░ would you do with ░░░░░░░░ band that would you ░░░░░░░░ would you consider changing ░░░░░░░░ a year and eradicating ░░░░░░░░ totally are you interested ░░░░░░░░ kind of keeping it ░░░░░░░░ I would direct the ░░░░░░░░ to reevaluate it to ░░░░░░░░ sure that what we ░░░░░░░░ doing is consistent with ░░░░░░░░ medicine tells us not ░░░░░░░░ old prejudices okay all ░░░░░░░░ so our next questions ░░░░░░░░ Iowa Iowa legislators recently ░░░░░░░░ religious exemption legislation modeled ░░░░░░░░ the federal Religious Freedom ░░░░░░░░ Act allowing individuals to ░░░░░░░░ broad exemptions from generally ░░░░░░░░ laws including laws that ░░░░░░░░ health and public safety ░░░░░░░░ the 20 most states ░░░░░░░░ religious exemption laws are ░░░░░░░░ the books they are ░░░░░░░░ weaponized to discriminate against ░░░░░░░░ people religious minorities single ░░░░░░░░ and more and more ░░░░░░░░ the person who really ░░░░░░░░ this Fisher and your ░░░░░░░░ but the governor Mike ░░░░░░░░ who you worked with ░░░░░░░░ lot in not Shady ░░░░░░░░ all that s I ░░░░░░░░ Mike Pence and I ░░░░░░░░ like oh my friends ░░░░░░░░ would like to know ░░░░░░░░ are you gonna handle ░░░░░░░░ on the national scale ░░░░░░░░ president of United States ░░░░░░░░ unfortunately I got a ░░░░░░░░ of experience dealing with ░░░░░░░░ because this approach was ░░░░░░░░ pioneered in Indiana yes ░░░░░░░░ the thing that is ░░░░░░░░ upsetting is that it ░░░░░░░░ only is abusive toward ░░░░░░░░ Americans but in my ░░░░░░░░ it s abusive toward ░░░░░░░░ idea of faith hmm ░░░░░░░░ faith is supposed to ░░░░░░░░ about making people whole ░░░░░░░░ making people better off ░░░░░░░░ when faith is used ░░░░░░░░ an excuse to harm ░░░░░░░░ to me that is ░░░░░░░░ insult to religion itself ░░░░░░░░ to mention everybody discriminated ░░░░░░░░ now what what we ░░░░░░░░ in Indiana what was ░░░░░░░░ was the coalition of ░░░░░░░░ who rose up to ░░░░░░░░ back I was there ░░░░░░░░ a mayor but demo ░░░░░░░░ there right with Democratic ░░░░░░░░ s the business community ░░░░░░░░ even NASCAR said they ░░░░░░░░ disappointed that s how ░░░░░░░░ know you re getting ░░░░░░░░ yeah a NASCAR Moon ░░░░░░░░ so you know I ░░░░░░░░ this is really a ░░░░░░░░ out of action that ░░░░░░░░ out of step with ░░░░░░░░ American people and as ░░░░░░░░ part of how I ░░░░░░░░ push back on those ░░░░░░░░ I mean needless to ░░░░░░░░ first of all you ░░░░░░░░ t see them embrace ░░░░░░░░ the White House to ░░░░░░░░ with but also you ░░░░░░░░ see a call to ░░░░░░░░ the American people already ░░░░░░░░ which is even those ░░░░░░░░ and we should recognize ░░░░░░░░ they re people from ░░░░░░░░ certain generation who have ░░░░░░░░ brought up to reject ░░░░░░░░ we are mm hm ░░░░░░░░ they re on a ░░░░░░░░ and we should help ░░░░░░░░ rather than drag them ░░░░░░░░ the right place but ░░░░░░░░ the lens of compassion ░░░░░░░░ have an opportunity to ░░░░░░░░ an American majority that ░░░░░░░░ that this is not ░░░░░░░░ right thing to do ░░░░░░░░ for religion and certainly ░░░░░░░░ for civil rights in ░░░░░░░░ are you fearful you ░░░░░░░░ I I think we ░░░░░░░░ both from very religious ░░░░░░░░ I m from the ░░░░░░░░ south and you know ░░░░░░░░ I love that you ░░░░░░░░ saying this and I ░░░░░░░░ to know do you ░░░░░░░░ kind of any risk ░░░░░░░░ you know a rule ░░░░░░░░ religious community is really ░░░░░░░░ to get behind this ░░░░░░░░ and do you see ░░░░░░░░ as a route to ░░░░░░░░ make change cuz you ░░░░░░░░ I would want nothing ░░░░░░░░ than see the church ░░░░░░░░ I grew up and ░░░░░░░░ change but do you ░░░░░░░░ that s actually gonna ░░░░░░░░ I think it can ░░░░░░░░ when we ask people ░░░░░░░░ be attuned to the ░░░░░░░░ of compassion and supporting ░░░░░░░░ other you know so ░░░░░░░░ a young person in ░░░░░░░░ the church is one ░░░░░░░░ the places they want ░░░░░░░░ go for help and ░░░░░░░░ and I do think ░░░░░░░░ instinct is in I ░░░░░░░░ hope that instinct is ░░░░░░░░ anybody who is in ░░░░░░░░ church even if they ░░░░░░░░ misguided on what their ░░░░░░░░ is telling how their ░░░░░░░░ is telling them to ░░░░░░░░ other people and I ░░░░░░░░ in the name of ░░░░░░░░ compassion look you ll ░░░░░░░░ get everybody I learned ░░░░░░░░ the hard way when ░░░░░░░░ came out but it ░░░░░░░░ amazing how many people ░░░░░░░░ move past those old ░░░░░░░░ when you appeal to ░░░░░░░░ is best in them ░░░░░░░░ I think the function ░░░░░░░░ leadership especially presidential leadership ░░░░░░░░ to bring out the ░░░░░░░░ of what s already ░░░░░░░░ inside of us so ░░░░░░░░ one more question what ░░░░░░░░ re good so we ░░░░░░░░ one question from Bryce ░░░░░░░░ who lives in Adel ░░░░░░░░ and they write in ░░░░░░░░ parts of rural Iowa ░░░░░░░░ America access to health ░░░░░░░░ is scarce and hard ░░░░░░░░ get to and it ░░░░░░░░ even harder and more ░░░░░░░░ for members of the ░░░░░░░░ for members of the ░░░░░░░░ community as president what ░░░░░░░░ you do to not ░░░░░░░░ expand health care across ░░░░░░░░ America but go above ░░░░░░░░ beyond to make sure ░░░░░░░░ individuals get the health ░░░░░░░░ they need wherever they ░░░░░░░░ so one of the ░░░░░░░░ we ve got to ░░░░░░░░ is reinvigorate health equity ░░░░░░░░ part of our healthcare ░░░░░░░░ not only we you ░░░░░░░░ look everywhere else to ░░░░░░░░ our debate over health ░░░░░░░░ coverage but we ve ░░░░░░░░ got to make sure ░░░░░░░░ we engage the capabilities ░░░░░░░░ for example the Department ░░░░░░░░ Health and Human Services ░░░░░░░░ should have a reinvigorated ░░░░░░░░ equity task force to ░░░░░░░░ we already know about ░░░░░░░░ racial inequities in health ░░░░░░░░ and health care and ░░░░░░░░ same is true when ░░░░░░░░ comes to LGBTQ folks ░░░░░░░░ can do something about ░░░░░░░░ and I propose that ░░░░░░░░ fund health equity zones ░░░░░░░░ help tackle these issues ░░░░░░░░ there should be local ░░░░░░░░ but federal dollars so ░░░░░░░░ we specifically identify the ░░░░░░░░ in which health is ░░░░░░░░ is more difficult to ░░░░░░░░ for people because of ░░░░░░░░ category that they belong ░░░░░░░░ we ve got an ░░░░░░░░ to do that and ░░░░░░░░ we just have a ░░░░░░░░ culturally competent and frankly ░░░░░░░░ plain more diverse medical ░░░░░░░░ a lot of these ░░░░░░░░ begin to get better ░░░░░░░░ there s somebody in ░░░░░░░░ room to say wait ░░░░░░░░ minute the way we ░░░░░░░░ doing this isn t ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ Americans expect ░░░░░░░░ you and your administration ░░░░░░░░ your first hundred days ░░░░░░░░ well first I want ░░░░░░░░ say what an honor ░░░░░░░░ is to be here ░░░░░░░░ all of you and ░░░░░░░░ Mayor Pete so let ░░░░░░░░ hear it again for ░░░░░░░░ he is something to ░░░░░░░░ proud of so what ░░░░░░░░ can expect from me ░░░░░░░░ then I ll explain ░░░░░░░░ I ll get you ░░░░░░░░ first of all to ░░░░░░░░ a marriage Equality Act ░░░░░░░░ the first year we ░░░░░░░░ so close we passed ░░░░░░░░ in the house we ░░░░░░░░ get this done secondly ░░░░░░░░ day one I will ░░░░░░░░ rid of Betsy DeVos ░░░░░░░░ need a Secretary of ░░░░░░░░ that gets marriage equality ░░░░░░░░ gets translates that understands ░░░░░░░░ students and stops the ░░░░░░░░ in our schools the ░░░░░░░░ thing I would do ░░░░░░░░ ban conversion therapy we ░░░░░░░░ seen some of this ░░░░░░░░ Minnesota which you may ░░░░░░░░ noted and so I ░░░░░░░░ very focused on this ░░░░░░░░ and then I think ░░░░░░░░ need to invest in ░░░░░░░░ health and make sure ░░░░░░░░ we have healthcare that ░░░░░░░░ for our HIV community ░░░░░░░░ else so how do ░░░░░░░░ get there going back ░░░░░░░░ how I got involved ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ issues so I ░░░░░░░░ the DA the county ░░░░░░░░ and we had a ░░░░░░░░ of hate crimes come ░░░░░░░░ our office and I ░░░░░░░░ on them and prosecuted ░░░░░░░░ and then when President ░░░░░░░░ actually introduced the Matthew ░░░░░░░░ bill the hate crime ░░░░░░░░ I was a young ░░░░░░░░ an elected official I ░░░░░░░░ never even been to ░░░░░░░░ White House but he ░░░░░░░░ he invited me to ░░░░░░░░ White House to introduce ░░░░░░░░ when he introduced the ░░░░░░░░ because of the work ░░░░░░░░ done and I got ░░░░░░░░ meet Matthew Shepard s ░░░░░░░░ I got to meet ░░░░░░░░ investigators on the case ░░░░░░░░ s something I will ░░░░░░░░ forget they talked about ░░░░░░░░ that had changed their ░░░░░░░░ and changed them forever ░░░░░░░░ they started working on ░░░░░░░░ case and this is ░░░░░░░░ sheriff s deputies the ░░░░░░░░ officers so anyway there ░░░░░░░░ was ready to go ░░░░░░░░ the East Room to ░░░░░░░░ Bill Clinton never having ░░░░░░░░ in the White House ░░░░░░░░ standing outside of the ░░░░░░░░ with Bill Clinton on ░░░░░░░░ side Janet Reno on ░░░░░░░░ other with my little ░░░░░░░░ cards and they start ░░░░░░░░ hail to the chief ░░░░░░░░ military band was there ░░░░░░░░ I wanted to make ░░░░░░░░ a very important event ░░░░░░░░ know the dinner and ░░░░░░░░ start walking in and ░░░░░░░░ of a sudden I ░░░░░░░░ this big hand on ░░░░░░░░ shoulder and this voice ░░░░░░░░ I know you ░░░░░░░░ won t be my ░░░░░░░░ then I got the ░░░░░░░░ honor of following that ░░░░░░░░ through just think years ░░░░░░░░ years later I m ░░░░░░░░ the Senate it had ░░░░░░░░ then we took over ░░░░░░░░ Senate and then we ░░░░░░░░ passed that bill the ░░░░░░░░ crimes bill with my ░░░░░░░░ in the US Senate ░░░░░░░░ there we had in ░░░░░░░░ a divisive divisive amendment ░░░░░░░░ would have actually made ░░░░░░░░ impossible to have gay ░░░░░░░░ in our state we ░░░░░░░░ Iowa as an example ░░░░░░░░ we were able to ░░░░░░░░ that amendment in a ░░░░░░░░ election my reelect in ░░░░░░░░ and not only did ░░░░░░░░ defeat it we took ░░░░░░░░ the state legislature and ░░░░░░░░ passed gay marriage in ░░░░░░░░ so that s my ░░░░░░░░ and I m very ░░░░░░░░ looking forward to carrying ░░░░░░░░ to the finish line ░░░░░░░░ this other work that ░░░░░░░░ need to do thank ░░░░░░░░ so much thank you ░░░░░░░░ another Iowa question this ░░░░░░░░ Iowa legislators wrote exemptions ░░░░░░░░ the Iowa Civil Rights ░░░░░░░░ that would allow Medicaid ░░░░░░░░ the nya medically necessary ░░░░░░░░ care to transgender Iowans ░░░░░░░░ president what would you ░░░░░░░░ to ensure that transgender ░░░░░░░░ are able to access ░░░░░░░░ necessary care without discrimination ░░░░░░░░ I would be against ░░░░░░░░ I know what you ░░░░░░░░ a problem right no ░░░░░░░░ your legislature and in ░░░░░░░░ governor s office right ░░░░░░░░ Iowa and we need ░░░░░░░░ need to fix that ░░░░░░░░ winning elections okay so ░░░░░░░░ is the first and ░░░░░░░░ of course I would ░░░░░░░░ those kind of policies ░░░░░░░░ would not be for ░░░░░░░░ kinds of policies and ░░░░░░░░ think we ve got ░░░░░░░░ make sure as we ░░░░░░░░ at Medicaid coverage as ░░░░░░░░ look at the Affordable ░░░░░░░░ Act we have to ░░░░░░░░ how important these protections ░░░░░░░░ in the Affordable Care ░░░░░░░░ actually for trans people ░░░░░░░░ also for HIV LGBT ░░░░░░░░ name it because remember ░░░░░░░░ this we had people ░░░░░░░░ kicked off their health ░░░░░░░░ for pre existing conditions ░░░░░░░░ not only is this ░░░░░░░░ discriminating and discriminate against ░░░░░░░░ people with health care ░░░░░░░░ their right to be ░░░░░░░░ and serve he is ░░░░░░░░ discriminating against all LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ in his efforts to ░░░░░░░░ the Affordable Care Act ░░░░░░░░ wouldn t repeal it ░░░░░░░░ would strengthen it I ░░░░░░░░ expand it thank you ░░░░░░░░ that earlier this year ░░░░░░░░ Allen and angel Lane ░░░░░░░░ Missouri were busy planning ░░░░░░░░ wedding when they received ░░░░░░░░ unwelcome news a wedding ░░░░░░░░ designer not only rejected ░░░░░░░░ wish to purchase their ░░░░░░░░ wedding dress but went ░░░░░░░░ to say I know ░░░░░░░░ both love each other ░░░░░░░░ that that feels right ░░░░░░░░ I encourage you both ░░░░░░░░ reconsider your marriage and ░░░░░░░░ specifically reconsider your marriage ░░░░░░░░ relationship with God as ░░░░░░░░ midwestern er a Christian ░░░░░░░░ a wife how can ░░░░░░░░ guarantee that LGBTQ couples ░░░░░░░░ have their dream wedding ░░░░░░░░ living in fear of ░░░░░░░░ discriminated against simply for ░░░░░░░░ who they are well ░░░░░░░░ the courts won t ░░░░░░░░ it and they ve ░░░░░░░░ such a problem on ░░░░░░░░ issues as we know ░░░░░░░░ think the answer is ░░░░░░░░ Equality Act I think ░░░░░░░░ would make a big ░░░░░░░░ in protecting people and ░░░░░░░░ as we go forward ░░░░░░░░ is appointing judges especially ░░░░░░░░ to the highest court ░░░░░░░░ a land the Supreme ░░░░░░░░ that respects civil rights ░░░░░░░░ the law and okay ░░░░░░░░ one final question which ░░░░░░░░ from institutions ░░░░░░░░ individuals off the hook ░░░░░░░░ enforcing anti discrimination laws ░░░░░░░░ it s in housing ░░░░░░░░ employment or health care ░░░░░░░░ in adoptions or in ░░░░░░░░ military we re going ░░░░░░░░ roll those back go ░░░░░░░░ to what we did ░░░░░░░░ President Obama and then ░░░░░░░░ it to the next ░░░░░░░░ I would also appoint ░░░░░░░░ task force to assist ░░░░░░░░ and local authorities to ░░░░░░░░ the deaths and injuries ░░░░░░░░ transgender women of color ░░░░░░░░ connect the dots of ░░░░░░░░ for instance ensuring that ░░░░░░░░ because somebody is HIV ░░░░░░░░ if they ░░░░░░░░ manned up he would ░░░░░░░░ find a forever family ░░░░░░░░ people just don t ░░░░░░░░ gay kids he was ░░░░░░░░ was moved from group ░░░░░░░░ to group home aged ░░░░░░░░ of foster care they ░░░░░░░░ homelessness before getting his ░░░░░░░░ degree and becoming a ░░░░░░░░ advocate Texas your state ░░░░░░░░ a law on the ░░░░░░░░ explicitly allowing foster care ░░░░░░░░ and workers to discriminate ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ foster parents and ░░░░░░░░ as parent what would ░░░░░░░░ do to improve the ░░░░░░░░ for the one in ░░░░░░░░ foster youth who by ░░░░░░░░ are LGBTQ thank you ░░░░░░░░ much for that question ░░░░░░░░ one I would prohibit ░░░░░░░░ kind of discrimination in ░░░░░░░░ foster care system I ░░░░░░░░ also ensure that we ░░░░░░░░ in the foster care ░░░░░░░░ to make sure that ░░░░░░░░ up homeless or in ░░░░░░░░ we need to invest ░░░░░░░░ our foster care system ░░░░░░░░ large because you can ░░░░░░░░ across the board that ░░░░░░░░ people are not able ░░░░░░░░ live up to their ░░░░░░░░ potential oftentimes so we ░░░░░░░░ to improve it but ░░░░░░░░ also need to make ░░░░░░░░ that no matter what ░░░░░░░░ sexual orientation or your ░░░░░░░░ identity is that you ░░░░░░░░ feel at home that ░░░░░░░░ can feel like you ░░░░░░░░ loved that you can ░░░░░░░░ like you count too ░░░░░░░░ you can be able ░░░░░░░░ you know grow up ░░░░░░░░ go on and be ░░░░░░░░ and reach your dreams ░░░░░░░░ those dreams are and ░░░░░░░░ begins by ensuring non ░░░░░░░░ in that system okay ░░░░░░░░ you I have to ░░░░░░░░ a question about your ░░░░░░░░ job as you know ░░░░░░░░ have a housing ░░░░░░░░ under Obama we saw ░░░░░░░░ LGBTQ protections passed than ░░░░░░░░ before however this situation ░░░░░░░░ only stayed the same ░░░░░░░░ it grew some as ░░░░░░░░ what are your plans ░░░░░░░░ deal with this issue ░░░░░░░░ it seems as we ░░░░░░░░ more of these conversations ░░░░░░░░ more of us come ░░░░░░░░ the more homeless were ░░░░░░░░ thank you for that ░░░░░░░░ first of all let ░░░░░░░░ say that what Ben ░░░░░░░░ said what was reported ░░░░░░░░ he said the other ░░░░░░░░ is disgusting and we ░░░░░░░░ a secretary of housing ░░░░░░░░ can represent everybody and ░░░░░░░░ sure that everybody is ░░░░░░░░ fairly and if he ░░░░░░░░ t do that he ░░░░░░░░ step down as Secretary ░░░░░░░░ Housing and Urban Development ░░░░░░░░ I was there we ░░░░░░░░ the transgender rule that ░░░░░░░░ said if you seek ░░░░░░░░ at a federally funded ░░░░░░░░ that you need to ░░░░░░░░ accommodated according to your ░░░░░░░░ according to what makes ░░░░░░░░ comfortable and I want ░░░░░░░░ ensure that we hold ░░░░░░░░ to that so we ░░░░░░░░ go back to that ░░░░░░░░ that kind of protection ░░░░░░░░ it comes to youth ░░░░░░░░ we did have a ░░░░░░░░ of opportunity to work ░░░░░░░░ get those numbers down ░░░░░░░░ I have a housing ░░░░░░░░ that includes ending youth ░░░░░░░░ by the end of ░░░░░░░░ first term and I ░░░░░░░░ do that by investing ░░░░░░░░ more Housing Choice vouchers ░░░░░░░░ rehousing dollars and other ░░░░░░░░ that would help young ░░░░░░░░ be able to find ░░░░░░░░ permanent place to live ░░░░░░░░ somebody turns 18 and ░░░░░░░░ re an adult they ░░░░░░░░ a permanent place to ░░░░░░░░ before then they need ░░░░░░░░ loving stable place that ░░░░░░░░ can live that takes ░░░░░░░░ that also takes making ░░░░░░░░ that we re aware ░░░░░░░░ as you said the ░░░░░░░░ that up to forty ░░░░░░░░ in some communities of ░░░░░░░░ who are homeless are ░░░░░░░░ the LGBTQ community we ░░░░░░░░ to prevent that we ░░░░░░░░ to make sure that ░░░░░░░░ better understand that somebody ░░░░░░░░ comes out as gay ░░░░░░░░ lesbian or transgender you ░░░░░░░░ how do we get ░░░░░░░░ to better accept who ░░░░░░░░ loved one is and ░░░░░░░░ there any kind of ░░░░░░░░ you would or not ░░░░░░░░ but more like how ░░░░░░░░ that conversation go in ░░░░░░░░ White House you know ░░░░░░░░ hear so much about ░░░░░░░░ m gonna pass this ░░░░░░░░ legislation I m gonna ░░░░░░░░ it stronger but all ░░░░░░░░ that conversation look like ░░░░░░░░ you re sitting in ░░░░░░░░ White House telling you ░░░░░░░░ a large part of ░░░░░░░░ that like hey you ░░░░░░░░ not be kicking out ░░░░░░░░ kids even though they ░░░░░░░░ all over you no ░░░░░░░░ right now it begins ░░░░░░░░ I think first of ░░░░░░░░ it begins with letting ░░░░░░░░ know what the challenge ░░░░░░░░ I think most Americans ░░░░░░░░ t understand that that ░░░░░░░░ percentage of our youth ░░░░░░░░ come from the LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ secondly I actually believe ░░░░░░░░ it starts in our ░░░░░░░░ system in our institutions ░░░░░░░░ that we have a ░░░░░░░░ in the years to ░░░░░░░░ that values the contributions ░░░░░░░░ people from the LGBTQ ░░░░░░░░ that understands the history ░░░░░░░░ instead of seeing them ░░░░░░░░ oftentimes as the other ░░░░░░░░ understand that that you ░░░░░░░░ we re fully part ░░░░░░░░ one American family and ░░░░░░░░ it s housing dollars ░░░░░░░░ you asked about what ░░░░░░░░ that actually mean like ░░░░░░░░ mechanically what does that ░░░░░░░░ it s housing dollars ░░░░░░░░ it s also understanding ░░░░░░░░ we can do at ░░░░░░░░ institutional level out there ░░░░░░░░ our schools working with ░░░░░░░░ challenging The Nation to ░░░░░░░░ more understanding and more ░░░░░░░░ in the media today ░░░░░░░░ much of whether people ░░░░░░░░ understood or not plays ░░░░░░░░ out in American media ░░░░░░░░ culture and so I ░░░░░░░░ across the board there ░░░░░░░░ ways for us to ░░░░░░░░ sure that progress continues ░░░░░░░░ happen ok so my ░░░░░░░░ question before I let ░░░░░░░░ go it actually comes ░░░░░░░░ Honduras a year ago ░░░░░░░░ did a story at ░░░░░░░░ magazine a gentleman called ░░░░░░░░ that was under Grinder ░░░░░░░░ and we did tell ░░░░░░░░ story to young people ░░░░░░░░ were married in Tijuana ░░░░░░░░ was a group of ░░░░░░░░ people that were actually ░░░░░░░░ read in Tijuana as ░░░░░░░░ waited for asylum in ░░░░░░░░ US these two young ░░░░░░░░ did get married and ░░░░░░░░ had beautiful photos but ░░░░░░░░ they cross ice detained ░░░░░░░░ they ve been held ░░░░░░░░ the past 10 months ░░░░░░░░ were abused and they ░░░░░░░░ just sent back to ░░░░░░░░ and they re currently ░░░░░░░░ their life there and ░░░░░░░░ literally die at any ░░░░░░░░ what will you do ░░░░░░░░ asylum seekers as president ░░░░░░░░ make sure that queer ░░░░░░░░ who are fleeing here ░░░░░░░░ stay alive do not ░░░░░░░░ let s sit back ░░░░░░░░ s so much I ░░░░░░░░ I put out an ░░░░░░░░ plan in early April ░░░░░░░░ I have a very ░░░░░░░░ view of immigration from ░░░░░░░░ president and I m ░░░░░░░░ gonna be afraid to ░░░░░░░░ that vision but with ░░░░░░░░ to asylum seekers I ░░░░░░░░ do several things number ░░░░░░░░ I would I would ░░░░░░░░ playing games with asylum ░░░░░░░░ at the border stop ░░░░░░░░ metering stopped the npp ░░░░░░░░ remain in Mexico program ░░░░░░░░ would with asylum seekers ░░░░░░░░ the reason that somebody ░░░░░░░░ fleeing from domestic or ░░░░░░░░ violence again to be ░░░░░░░░ in somebody s asylum ░░░░░░░░ because too often times ░░░░░░░░ transgender individuals are fleeing ░░░░░░░░ that kind of threat ░░░░░░░░ violence or actual violence ░░░░░░░░ would stop as I ░░░░░░░░ separating asylum seekers because ░░░░░░░░ is HIV positive or ░░░░░░░░ of being that so ░░░░░░░░ day one there are ░░░░░░░░ actions that we can ░░░░░░░░ to treat people more ░░░░░░░░ and also to allow ░░░░░░░░ to make their Asylum ░░░░░░░░ in the first place ░░░░░░░░ also need an immigration ░░░░░░░░ system that is independent ░░░░░░░░ the Department of Justice ░░░░░░░░ has the judges and ░░░░░░░░ staff to actually hear ░░░░░░░░ s cases I don ░░░░░░░░ want people having to ░░░░░░░░ three or four years ░░░░░░░░ get an answer on ░░░░░░░░ asylum claim I don ░░░░░░░░ want to separate families ░░░░░░░░ don t want kids ░░░░░░░░ cages I want people ░░░░░░░░ have justice and to ░░░░░░░░ able to get a ░░░░░░░░ or no and then ░░░░░░░░ you mentioned Honduras I ░░░░░░░░ believe what we need ░░░░░░░░ do is that we ░░░░░░░░ a 21st century Marshall ░░░░░░░░ for on dudas El ░░░░░░░░ and Guatemala so that ░░░░░░░░ can find safety and ░░░░░░░░
