CBS’ Brennan to Rep. Omar: Do You Understand Why People Found Your Remarks on 9/11 ‘Offensive?’

Margaret BRENNAN This was ░░░░░░░░ anniversary this week the ░░░░░░░░ of the 9 11 ░░░░░░░░ on our country And ░░░░░░░░ a Ground Zero well ░░░░░░░░ ceremony I ll call ░░░░░░░░ the son of one ░░░░░░░░ the victims stood up ░░░░░░░░ specifically called out language ░░░░░░░░ had used in the ░░░░░░░░ that he characterized as ░░░░░░░░ respectful when referring to ░░░░░░░░ three thousand people who ░░░░░░░░ killed by Al Qaeda ░░░░░░░░ said some people did ░░░░░░░░ and he put it ░░░░░░░░ there on his t ░░░░░░░░ Do do you understand ░░░░░░░░ people found that offensive ░░░░░░░░ Omar I mean so ░░░░░░░░ 11 was an attack ░░░░░░░░ all Americans It was ░░░░░░░░ attack on all of ░░░░░░░░ And I certainly could ░░░░░░░░ understand the weight of ░░░░░░░░ pain that the victims ░░░░░░░░ the the families of ░░░░░░░░ 11 must feel But ░░░░░░░░ think it is really ░░░░░░░░ for us to make ░░░░░░░░ that we are not ░░░░░░░░ right the aftermath of ░░░░░░░░ happened after 9 11 ░░░░░░░░ Americans found themselves now ░░░░░░░░ their civil rights stripped ░░░░░░░░ them And so what ░░░░░░░░ was speaking to was ░░░░░░░░ fact that as a ░░░░░░░░ not only was I ░░░░░░░░ as an American who ░░░░░░░░ attacked on that day ░░░░░░░░ the next day I ░░░░░░░░ up as my fellow ░░░░░░░░ were now treating me ░░░░░░░░ suspect Margaret BRENNAN Do ░░░░░░░░ do you feel like ░░░░░░░░ s been tough for ░░░░░░░░ here in Washington to ░░░░░░░░ your rhetoric to to ░░░░░░░░ less of an activist ░░░░░░░░ try to be a ░░░░░░░░ That that sometimes the ░░░░░░░░ you use has gotten ░░░░░░░░ your own way REP ░░░░░░░░ I certainly don t ░░░░░░░░ that You know when ░░░░░░░░ were celebrating few nights ░░░░░░░░ I talked about how ░░░░░░░░ people would say Ilhan ░░░░░░░░ should speak a certain ░░░░░░░░ Ilhan you should do ░░░░░░░░ a certain way and ░░░░░░░░ think that s contradictory ░░░░░░░░ to the purpose of ░░░░░░░░ my existence in this ░░░░░░░░ I believe that my ░░░░░░░░ sent me to make ░░░░░░░░ that I was bringing ░░░░░░░░ a conversation that others ░░░░░░░░ t having that I ░░░░░░░░ speaking for people who ░░░░░░░░ voiceless for a long ░░░░░░░░ And I think it ░░░░░░░░ really important for us ░░░░░░░░ recognize that it s ░░░░░░░░ new Congress It s ░░░░░░░░ diverse Congress and we ░░░░░░░░ not only diverse in ░░░░░░░░ race or ethnicity or ░░░░░░░░ but we are also ░░░░░░░░ in our perspective in ░░░░░░░░ pain and our struggles ░░░░░░░░ in the hopes and ░░░░░░░░ that we have and ░░░░░░░░ kind of America that ░░░░░░░░ want to shape for ░░░░░░░░ of us.
